History is proving something --- The years of having players who sign because they have pride, spirit and passion for the eels are gone !!! For years we sign players on name value ,Yes the player may be ok , but does the player use heart and sole into the performances ? What EELS must do is concentrate on players who are so passionate about the team  and then work with them to make them champions .

Signing a player EG THURSTON to me is useless , he is a cowboys player, his career and heart is there and only money would be the reason he comes--- Then you get a half hearted player getting paid loads for nothing . NO PRIDE that filters through the team spirit . The difference between 80,s and now is in the 80,s every single eels player gave their all , they killed for each other in the blue n gold colors . they were relentless, fearless, unforgiving and became unstoppable. It is the reason we held the trophy 4 times in one decade .

The team we have today is half a team ----- half spirit ,dedication , passion ect ,-- The rest is bought

SO GUYS WHAT ARE YOU VIEWS ON THIS TOPIC ?

  • I think the issues that you raise are indicative of the culture of the NRL. There aren't many teams that you could say that they're all out there playing for each other and I believe that is ultimately because alot of players are driven more by the size of their pay packets. However, you can't begrudge them a chance at a good earn either given their careers are much shorter than other professions.

I think the biggest motivating factor to a player who is plays with pride and passion for his team is that he wants to play for his coach and that the coach is the one that influences the way they play. Look at the Dragons for instance, it is clear that they all want to play for Bennett and in turn he places emphasis on playing for each other and having pride in the jersey. Dare I say it but the same goes for the Storm too!!

Hopefully with the appointment of Kearney and the rumours that alot of players are now much more interested in playing here because of his appointment we will too see an improvement in the players pride for the blue and gold and ultimately an improvement in our results.
  • cheers darkie and thanks pato
  • are you saying that players that we buy dont show the same pride? If so, i can name you many players that have excelled for us that weren't parra juniors eg Kingston, Galavo, Fui
  • Hi fiddy , i am refering to the change of culture at the club, The difference in the mental status of the team . In the 80's - just to get a jumper was everything , to play for the mighty eels was the best you could achive ( who doesnt want to play for the worlds greatest team ). The difference now is money hunger has taken over the love of the game .
No one will argue that . What i am trying to do is be part of a course that brings the love of the eels jumper, the pride ,passion, commitment, determination ,spirit ,heart and sole into our players. I want this team to play for each other and for us all . They need to be brought back to reality before we can move forwards .
Only teams that present the hardest approach will achieve success . I am saying purchased players tend to play for money !!!!!! What we need are players that are BLUE N GOLD BLOOD , Then work with them to create LEGENDS ONCE MORE !!!! Hayne will be a legend once he scores 2 tries in 4 grandfinals for example ...........

"That is what we are lacking in our forward pack mainly, a prick. We need a JWH or NAS someone who will get under the skin of the opposition but also intimidate. We have nice guys, with Dylan Walker only one to question things."
