Did you Notice?

I have previously blogged about some plays that I've seen drilled at training, that I had yet to see employed to any extent in games. The first was attacking kicks. By this I'm referring to the type of kicks from Sandow that led to tries by Semi and Norman. It was the type of play that I've watched the team rehearse, even back in pre-season, yet rarely seen put into practice. The second was the plays put on through the forwards when attacking the line. Tepai's try was a great example of this rehearsed play. People may recall my training blog that described the referees watching these plays at our training and discussing whether they were obstruction plays. They regularly rehearsed these plays and I was very enthusiastic about how good they looked. The try against the Storm was worked perfectly.Where have they been in the matches?I wish I knew the answer. Is it that our play makers haven't called for them?I think we can see how effective they could be when executed well. I hope we see more of it.

  • How may tricks do they have? It's easy to say if you use them regularly then teams will learn to defend them, is it possible that we dont have many?

Doesnt explain why we don't use and stick to what works

    • Was fantastically set-up. He had John Folau on his outside so that was always going to be a passing option which kept the defence out and then you had Sandow on the sweep which kept the defence fixated on the pass out wide. The hole really opened up for Tep and like the good attacker he is capatalised on it.

    • It's obvious that Gower is playing a similar role to what they wanted from Seffa. I think a major difference is Gower's ability to take on the line.
  • I have to say I have been impressed as of late with some of the moves. I didn't know what you had been watching 60s cause it was the same old week in week out but in the last few games I have seen some really nice and different plays.
    • I had noticed some nice plays too Xman. I wasn't indicating that there were no plays. There's been some great backline plays. Look at our try stats. It's all out wide tries by the wings. There's nothing wrong with it. But I know you saw BA rip into the team when the 6 or 7 didn't get the ball on the last for the attacking kick. Where has the attacking kick been? And that play from Gower was the type of forward rush with players in motion that has been missing. And I've watched it rehearsed with lots of variations. I'm just glad to see it now.
  • Could it just be we have seen it more of late because the play-makers now get a little larger share of the ball?

    • It's possible mate.
  • Something like that just doesn't happen. I've been waiting for them to put these type of forward plays on. Our forwards have been doing well in the ruck defensively. I'm happy to see them start to show some attacking prowess.
  • I really believe that we have the ability to use these forward plays more often. You can imagine Junior easily being as damaging as Tepai on a variation of the play.
    • The vast majority of our tries are on the extreme wings, going around the opposition. But I agree that we have the forwards to aim for more straight running tries, like Tepai's.

60's, if you still get to training, which type of attacking move do you see them practice more often: going around or straight through the defense?
