Did anyone watch 4Corners last night?

Very interesting piece on sports betting agencies and their deals with the big sporting codes.

Last year, according to the report, the NRL pocketed close to 50 million from it's 1.2% share from every bet placed by punters. Sometimes up to 17% on the bigger games.

Couldn't believe my ears when they said this was to help fund the integrity of the game.

  • Speaks volumes!

  • integrity has vanished inconsistent calls by refs bunkers and judicary. a draw that favours some and not others. integrity barhumbug

  • It's just " bad medicine " as Jon would say

    • Extremely bad medicine Carlo

horrified to see how much the nrl can make on bets placed - thoughts went to dodgy calls corruption etc it's not that unimaginable at all

kids coming out of school have gotten so used to seeing betting ads and accepted it is normal then they've got the TAB in their hand

wonder what the definition of 'bigger game' is? Well supported ?

      • Finals and SOO Macybrown.

        • Thanks Jeelman - I wondered if it included big games of the round stuff also with heavy betting and lots of attention

  • And this is the reason the Vman wants to promote the game in America, for all those lovely Yankee dollars

  • I think Alcohol and Tobacco has been outlawed for Sport industries to make money out of influencing addictions .I recently read that gambling is next on the agenda.Nice to see people watching these type of awareness programs

  • I have no problem with doing business with gambling companies, they are making money of our game, it's only right the NRL gets it share, but to say it's to fund integrity is hilarious.

The NRL is big business and it should be unashamed to say so.

    • As usual Brett, you are a voice of reason.

Let me explain to the do gooders and  naive pumpkins that believe integrity is effected by Licenced Gambling.

The biggest gamblers in the world are the Indians and Chinese. Neither of those countries have licenced gambling and they would be (India proven) the biggest outlet for illegal gambling and corruption.....what do you people think we had before the TAB emerged in the 60's .....SP Bookmakers and some of the most corrupt ingrerity issues in sport.

You do gooders have no understanding of the real world and continue to live your little bubbles of banning things......just another example of the WOKE mentality that is bringing everything down.

Question do you want to see the NRL get the benefit of betting commisions on their product or see it go to illegal bookmakers.

Addictions exist through our total society regardless of socio economic issues, why would you deny anyone from little old ladies and pensioners from enjoying one of the few pleasures they have in life.....but you and your kind would take it away from them.....why not ban anything with sugar in it, afterall we are much to sweet.

Learn to remember that  because you don't enjoy some things and others do, that responsibilities belong to the individual not the local church or anti everything society. Let people live, if they cant handle it, then let them deal with it.

PS Macy....when it comes to integrity 4 Corners is not exactly Mother Thersa when it comes to fair and unbiased views and in typical ABC commentary.....have ignored the Elephant in the room.

When various governments had a go at banning Greyhound Racing, the NSW Government and Premier were brought down because of it.

Wowsers are not my favourite people, have a look at how they are delivered in TV, Film and their general depiction of being miserable bastards.
