Parramatta officials have declared Arthur will be given the opportunity to see out the final year of his contract, although he will need early results to gain an extension.

From this statement one can draw the conclusion that it appears the club has no plans to get rid of the bush coach but rather are looking for reasons to extend his contract. Whether we are unicorns or realists on this site, as supporters and brothers in arms this statement should cause all of us alarm. We all want to see our beloved eels successful again......for that we need a winning coach who deserves to be there and not a yes man just for the sake of people feathering there own nests!

  • Too early in the morning son. Go back to bed you are imagining things.

    • actually its the middle of the day here. plus it clearly stated in the article about o'neill........

  • He's going no where 10 year coach unfortunately
  • Tonii, its actually written in the blog for hiring of O'Neill! I have read a lot of dumb crap from you lately.

  • I think it was written incorrectly and was supposed to say he needs early results to see out the full year.  Meaning that he was given his last year but need results early or may be booted before year is out.

I could be wrong though and it could simply mean if he performs he will get an extension which I am not opposed to.

If he takes us to top 8, top 4 or deep into finals why would you get rid of him and not offer another extension? That would mean he took eels to top 4 or 8, 3 of past 4 years if take cap saga out of equation where we would have made it despite the drama and losing players.

Also juniors are now coming through which has been massive issue for the sack BA brigade, however they are coming through now so maybe the juniors are not as broken as some believe.  Many have played up an age group so results may not be what some want but proof will be over next 2 years to see who kicks on with full pre-season in top squad.

If he fails early you move him on.  If it is average year replace him with right applicant, hence new structure with additional resources for upcoming year to see if it was BA or lack of support and funding in vital areas.  Many in game are supporting Barrett for standing his ground coaching manly with limited resources which could hurt his reputation long term.  BA is working with same restrictions but instead of chucking hissy fit on fighting for change and support

  • Yeah.. Funnily enough I actually read it the other way.
There's backing the coach and backing the coach.
There was probably no way that the club was going to get rid of Brad this year but have done a review, given him the resources and said here... Show us what you can do.
At least if the club runs a bust in 2019, Brad will have no comeback and will have to accept that he's just not the coach moving forward.
Personally, I believe it will require a top 3 or 4 finish in 2019 for Brad to be given an extension...and that may only be a year by year basis.
I reckon he's probably a snowballs chance of being at the Eels in 2020 and the club is actively looking to position itself for a 2020 hire. I say this because I personally don't believe he has the technical ability to be a top line coach.
    Time will tell.
  •  Yes, I read that with alarm. It is unbelievable the they are considering an extension to Arthurs overlong and failed coaching tenure. The intension should be, even now, to remove him and start 2019 with a genuine coach.

  • The clubs in total free fall, steering to its lowest point in history, actually we had that this year.

Next year will be a whole world of pain, a level of pain unseen for many years until Brad Arthur and all his hangers on are removed.

All his hangers on in the coaches box and dressing sheds, this whole culture needs to go.

We cant have a coach who thinks its ok to bring his family to work, its beyond ridiculous.

We are so unprofessional its no wonder we arnt being kicked out of the NRL

Im not knocking his family here, just stating a simple observation based on Fact, no coach should be so unprofessional and no club should let him be.

We are unprofessional from the top to the bottom and it seems to be encouraged by management because they dont know any better.

Our board is nothing short of a disgrace, McEldope stated they had decided well before the review that BA was safe and he was the right guy for the job, thats how ridiculous things have got.
Its clear McEldope is totally starstruck by BA, we are fucked with this clown as chairman.

  • From what I just saw it seems he will have to be successful early next season or his gone. As it says: he will need early results to gain an extension. Yes that sounds like he is getting an extension If successful. I can't see anything wrong with that, Brad had a great year last season, This season was crap but the club said they cut too many staff. They are fixing that so lets see what happens next year. I did coach rugby league for many years & it's the same in junior league or NRL, there are always heaps of other people that tell you they can do it better. Give the guy a break. Roosters had a crap season a couple of years ago but they didn't hang their coach. Now he is still there & they are in the GF.

    • Coach Jim: Your using that insidious adjective "great ". What was great about coming 4th when the only reason we are in the NRL is to come 1st? There is only one prize in the NRL and that first prize. Any other place other than first is a failure.4th place is a failure as is last place which your great coach achieved this year after 5 years of failure. Ask the team that comes second in Sunday's game if it was a success?
