Devonport Tragedy

As a father of 5 children I would just like to ask all the Eels supporters here on 1eyed to please keep your thoughts and prayers for the parents, friends and family members of these precious 5 little lives that were lost today in the jumping castle tragedy at Hillcrest School in Devenport Tasmania. I cannot even begin to imagine what these parents are currently going through 1 week before Christmas. I have lost a child of my own and that was something I still come to terms with even now. However, this is just inconceivable and there are still I believe 4 other precious little ones in hospital. My heart truly goes out to these families. This is when the Australian people truly come together when tragedy hits home. So, so sad. It just breaks my heart.

  • Have to be honest.  This triggered me.  There is literally nothing that you can say.  Just horrendous and so unfair.  Made even worse given the time of year.  I can think of nothing worse than losing a child.  It kills me even thinking about what these poor families and their friends are going through.  I also feel for all of the emergency services who attended.  This is life scarring stuff.  Life is wonderful, but it is also bloody unfair.  RIP beautful children and strength to their families.  Perhaps we could do a 1EE Go Fund Me, Fundraiser type of thing to offer our support?

    • Great idea EE about the 'fund me' fund-raiser. These families will need all the support they can get. I'm not sure how to do the fund-raising program but there might be someone here who knows. Its just so heart wrenching.

      • Me either, but I am sure this is something we could all offer a bit to help out.  Any IT smart people, willing to step up on here?

  • well said mate .  Freak of nature coupled with possibly human error and tragic result,   So many people are affected by these events .  First responders . Fellow students , parents , teachers . Siblings .

the police brief will rely heavily on the findings of workcover . They have been very straight bat but I suspect that safety guidelines may not have been followed given the castle was not properly secured . The investigaton will have far reaching ramifications on risk profiling similar events . Public liability costs will rise and I suspect some businesses will fold .

but all that doesn't bring back 5 beautiful kids about to start high school and the whole lives in front of them

God bless the families , they will need support for many years To come,  life if no dress rehearsal ..

    • Sadly, on point!

  • Well said AppEel. Tragic.

  • Well said AppEel, absolute tragedy mate. Sorry to hear you've lost a child yourself.

  • Very sorry to hear about your little one bud. My best mate lost a young son to cancer and I've witnessed his trauma first hand so I feel for you brother.

Am I wrong in thinking this isn't the first time this has happened recently with a jumping castle.? When I saw it I was like , this only just happened before recently.

    • My wife and I have come to terms with our own heartfelt loss. However, every time a tragedy like this happens it always brings memories. Not sure Wiz, but your probably correct about this happening with jumping castles before but maybe not to this extent. The 1st thing I thought after hearing of this horrible tragedy was, 'I wonder if the castle was secured correctly? Tasmania, however is known for its very powerful gusts of wind.

  • What a horrible accident, seeing those two police officers comfort each other was hart breaking. They see tragedy almost daily but this cut deep. To those that lost their little one my hart goes out, terrible time of the year as every Xmas will be a huge reminder of this, terrible accident.
