He has just that, the potential.
If you had a broken glass in case of emergency scenario and we had no hookers under our cap to play first-grade, you'd pick him. However, and ideally, you'd want him to come through the ranks and play a similar role for Wenty to test his mettle and he performs against older, bigger bodies.
But yes, he is a genuine one to keep an eye on and I hope he does kick on. One scenario should he do so, would be to play off the bench to replace Peats or just come on at lock for a spell, with the view of then potentially becoming the long-term hooker sometime after that. But that's getting ahead of ourselves right now.
Good player with great potential but probably needs that Wenty experience first.
Not much on Mahoney on the net
Looks like he came via dogs from Queensland
Some reports calling him skilful and a live wire
Sounds like he is at least 3 years away if he makes it
Rein said $300k
And Eels are not buying at that price
Peats is apparently preferred option for next year
Chief, to be fair, no youngster has been bashing down the door with any shred of consistency to justify their selection. This current crop we have - Utoikamanu, Afualo, Aukafolau, Tonise, Mahoney - they can do just that and I totally expect to see at least a few of them in first-grade in 2-3 years.
