Delayed Penalty

Since the crackdown on head high contact earlier in the season, we've seen the refs struggle to keep up with all the players getting reported. We often see, after a break in play, someone getting reported for an incident that happened earlier in the game. Many times, there is no penalty, deemed too far to go back in play.

Against the Knights, we saw a break in play after the Knights dropped the ball. Paulo's shoulder charge happened the tackle earlier. When about to pack a scrum with our feed, the bunker gets into the ear of the ref and he puts Paulo on report. It's not deemed too far back in play and a penalty is given to the Knights, who go down their end and got within 2 points with 20 to go. It was a huge, momentum changing call at a crucial time in an eleimination final.

Is anyone able to clarify just exactly what the rule is and what classifies the point of too far to go back in play?

  • Who knows. I remember earlier in the year I think against Manly, they played out a set of 6, kicked down field, went another 3 tackles, stopped the game and went back down the other end for a penalty and sin bin. I think it was RCG.

  • It's called the Multi. That's when the refs have made a bet and are doing everything in their power to get the win for the team they bet on. I think the NRL call it refs Interpritation.

The Fact is earlier in the season the refs would go back to award a penalty if the video ref saw something earlier in the set  but that stopped happening as the season went on, But hey, It's back just in time to use it against the Eels.

I wouldn't of had an issue with it if it happened all the time but the refs get to pick and choose which is what pisses me off.

  • So the rules allow the referees to go back however many plays they want to place a player on report and award a penalty. However, this season, they've mostly been going back to award a penalty and then sin bin the offending player. That's what was so weird with the Paulo one. On Saturday, the same thing happened but the player was only put on report and no penalty awarded. With Paulo, he was put on report and a penalty awarded.

    • Klein loves playing Mario Kart rules.

His non-call on the Mitchell Moses - Sue block was breathtakingly bad.

The crocodile roll on Fergo was only picked up becase Fergo started yapping loudly. He would have let it go otherwise.

Sue should have been sin binned for the crocodile roll. He was attempting to injure a player.

      • Haha Mario Kart rules classic!

Absolutely Raptor! Can’t believe more wasn’t said made about it by the deadshit commentators on Tele apart from laughing at fergs crocodile roll!! I’ll be shocked if Fergs is able to play on the weekend and the guy who’s practised storm rules definitely should’ve been walked.

  • I think the rule is as long as the next set hasn't started they can go back to it.

Sam thing happened when we played the puppies in R15. Thompson hit D.Brown with a coupe of play the balls happened which we forced a drop out. The ref got word from the bunker, went back to where D.Brown got hit for a penalty and Thompson got sent to the bin.
