No doubt we needed to sign an experienced hooker to replace Peats for the remainder of this season.
There was not much available on the market and with the June 30 deadline closing in. Issac Degois was a good pick up seeing Cronulla's injury crisis is worsening every week and they granted him a release. I know Issac would not be on big money but with our salary cap already bursting at the seams every cent counts. We have contract upgrades, juniors to lock up and the likes of Hayne, Pauli, Tangonia and Terepo coming off contract at the end of 2015 while also attempting to have money available for outside signings. Jarryd can write his own cheque and if his form continues will be the highest paid played in the NRL. I hear you say we have players off contract at years end but all of the above negates having any left over money in the bank.
We were desperate so I would say Issac had some good bargaining power, can't begrudge him for that but 2.5 years is a long time. Along the lines of signing Justin Hunt for 3 years (listed in the top 25) so not on minimum wage.
In the perfect world I would have signed him for 1.5 years but much can change as contracts don't really mean much these days.
Issac is a tough player and the type BA will get the very best out of no doubt.
I'm looking forward to seeing Issac in the blue and gold and next week I dare say he will be in 1st grade against the Dogs.

I'm sure the club had no choice, he wouldn't of signed for 1.5 years.
It shows the club is looking for immediate results and are prepared to take a gamble, no more rebuilding or 5 year plans, it's about here and now.
We obviously won't resign the likes of Foran or Jones who weren't even considered when Peats was injured.
Kaysa still to prove his worth so looking at it from that perspective having Peats, Degois and Pritchard as the clubs 3 hookers looks solid.
Issac won't ever play lock. Is a straight out hooker.
Your right Bert, its way to long, should have been 18 months, id say we have back ended the deal, but im very surprised we offered him 2.5 years, could be a great move or it could be a silly move, BA must rate him highly.
Maybe IDG and Peats will both be in the 17 at some stage. Peats can go harder, more runs, without having to stretch himself to 80 mins. IDG plays 30 Peats plays 50 or Peats comes back on to play 13 while IDG stays on at 9.
We will have options.
I haven't seen enough of Kaysa, but what i have seen, i am like Meh? Stay go don't care.
Agree MB, I also haven't seen much of Kaysa but what I have I was not that impressed. If he wasn't concidered when Peats got hurt he is not up to it so let him go as we still have ZDC who I believe is a lot better than KP.
He had to repeat a few grades.
Morris held Degois out at the sharks and he is a bog average hooker so how bad is Degois?
