Defence v Attack

For defence in no.1 however there is only so much you teach someone with regards to defending. Basically you've either got it or you don't. As far had having bad reads on defending, this can be coached and improved upon but again there's only do much you can teach as much comes done to reading the game.Attack on the other hand although not as crucial is more coachable. Again a lot comes down to natural ability and reading the game however I'm more taking about 5th tackle options and positional play. The good teams when they're off or nothing's going on in the opponents danger zone at the very least they have everyone in position for a good kick. They know what's coming and everyone is on the same page.Maybe they have to practice now..

  • Hi Josh, IMO defence is probably Parra's biggest challenge for the short term future. Unless the boys find the resoluteness to defend, they will struggle to be a real contender for a premiership.

What was concerning about the last 2 weeks was that after the Knights debacle, BA referred to our attitude in defence & even advised that he has no idea why the boys capitulated. This was followed late last week in a statement BA made referring to the Raiders match where he stated that the boys know how to tackle, they just have to want to do it.

I found those comments from BA to be both rather unusual & concerning particularly at the very latter part of the season playing for a semi spot. it sounded more like a coach's comment very early in season. It also begs the question of what BA's real stance on defence was during the season.

Remember that the boys fell apart in seven or eight games, thats damn near a third of our matches.

  • Only problem is you can't always coach attitude. Plus with the season on the line you shouldn't even have to as that should be more than enough motivation.
    • I know. Can BA fix it, that the real challenge for 2015.

  • You didn't hear or listen. I said there's only so much you can teach someone with regards to defending. Obviously you have practice it, however some are just better at it than others. Some just have a better attitude and pride themselves on defending. Some are just not very good at it.

"Agreed. I won't renew him no matter how well he plays. He was still sketchy yesterday. He is a good impact bench player against tired edges and Moses slipping him balls. "

"Hmmm. The only in would be Moretti for me. Maybe. I'd let him maybe have more time in reggies first. I'd keep Guymer.
So basically, same team. Yes even De Belin. I want De Belin to be in the team first few rounds then things will change IMO. Him…"
