Debutant Prop

There are two kids in the squad atm who are gathering some momentum towards being good first grade players, Samuel Hughes and David Hollis, the question i am raising however is which one do we believe should debut first?

At the moment, Hughes has the upper edge as he trained with the squad all of this year and got a top 30 spot late in the year, where Hollis was training in pre-season and that is it. Though both Props, they are both two completley different players, they're both tall and big in weight, Hughes is a great defender being an ex Second-rower he has that lateral movement in the defensive line. Attacking wise he is great, though defence is his trait. Where Hollis is a Klemmer like prescence, uses his size to bend the defence, though there was talks his defence though good needed work; in terms of giving away penalties,  not being a workhorse in defence and reading the defence.

With Arthur, i believe that is why Hughes was given first crack in the squad due to his stronger defence, though Hollis has had the bigger wraps. I think both will be fine footballers but atm do we need a Hollis who will add mongrel or Hughes who is strong and will add a steady prescence off the bench?

  • Ideally BA will give them both a taste of NRL action earlier in the season

    • Yep, in and around August 2022.

  • If we have trials hopefully both will get good opportunities and then we will be able to make a reasonable comment.

  • Young Hollis I have watched play since he was a kid,he is very tall and rangy.I hope he gets a run this year but honestly think will need to bulk up and fill out a little more for NRL  I reckon.,and he will.he's still growing.Dont know much about Hughes except what I've read but I'd say he will get first crack because his body seems ready.

  • BOTH should be used extensively in the trials imo.

  • I think the coaching staff should make this decision and whatever views are posted in this blog will have nil effect.

  • Hughes will debut in Round 21 and play 62 seconds off the bench

    • LOL!!   He may get a go by 2024, wearing someone elses colours.

      Development club lol.

    • Is that in 2021 or 2022?

    • Stop exagerating things.  He will get 45 seconds.
