debut

With Alvaro debuting on friday I thought I would pose the question, from your memory which juniors debut is the most memorable for you or the most impressive? I'm going to go with 2006 versus penrith, the week that JT took over from brian smith as coach after an ordinary start to the season in fact was half way through. I think from memory we lost that game in a close encounter but it was most memorable for me because of the debut of a junior who had been killing it in the lower grades but for some reason bs wouldnt give him a run. That player was Jarryd Hayne.dont think he even scored a try in that game but we sure turned our season around after that night with jh scoring 17 tries in the next 16 games and right from the start you could just tell he was all class, and the rest is history. I may have chosen the best but how about the rest?

  • Manu Ma'u Round 1 2014. Ran for 200 metres, looked dangerous every time we got the ball and was stern in defence.

  • Other than Jarryds debut, Inu's debut against Canberra in 07 I think was brilliant... I remember running into Damian Kelly who was our media manager at the time, at the club after the game and declared that a star was born, him and Haynsie carved up..
    • Must have been a great debut for Inu... His very next game was for New Zealand.

  • Eric Grothe Snr.  I think his first game was against Cronulla, and it was telecast by channel 7.  If it wasn’t his first game, I apologise, but it was the first I’d heard of him, and I can’t find confirming details online.

If I remember correctly, the opening kickoff targeted Grothe, who ran the entire length of the field, only to be tackled a few metres short of scoring.  I still remember thinking who the f... is that?  Never had to ask that question again.

  • Tim smith first year ,, absolutely destroyed every team ,, I thought he would be our next sterlo... He could of been anything
    • First game of the year v tigers his first game he absolutely killed them.
    • He killed it all year ,, we thought next aus half that's for sure
    • Not all year . preliminary final v cowboys the poor kid went to water.
    • If we had moi moi and Hindmarsh would off been a different story I reckon
