De Gois...Hooker going forward?

Now I haven't lost my mind. Nathan Peats has been the signing of the season as far as I'm concerned and its a tragedy he's out for the season. To me, Peats is Parra's long-term #9.

However, having said that, a few things have me thinking. Here are my thoughts:

1. It seems more obvious than ever now - with De Gois rushed into the starting line-up and Kelly (or anyone else for that matter) not retained as a utility or back-up hooker even for this first week withg De Gois at the club - that BA DOES NOT want to play with an extra hooker or utility on the bench, he likes 4 big mobile forwards to keep the roll-on happening.I like this.

2. Clearly, BA doesn't see Kelly as an option at hooker.

3. De Gois has been signed on a 2 and 1/2 year deal. Now as of next season when Peats is back and Kaysa is fit and fighting, where does that leave either De Gois or Kaysa (even for Wenty)?

So, is it possible, is it conceivable that - pending De Gois playing well at hooker - that BA and Parra have a longer-term plan in mind to *shudder* shift Peats to Lock (primarily due to his defensive capabilities and ability to use the ball) and retain De Gois (again if he plays well) at Hooker?? Seems far-fetched, but all of this just got me thinking. What does the 2 and 1/2 year De Gois deal say to Kaysa Pritchard?? He had to be thinking he was next in line at hooker or as a utility at Parra....

Just food for thought. Personally, I'm not in favour of the De Gois signing for now. I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt, but a few Cronulla mates were quite happy to see the back of him. He's also gone back and forwards between Cronulla and Newcastle and constantly been kept out of the NRL at Cronulla by John Morris, whom many here despise.

  • No, Peats will not be moved from Peats when he is fully fit. Peats will play hooker for first grade and De Gois will play hooker for Wenty, whether that be in NSW cup or RM cup is to be seen next year. I'd say that the 2.5 year deal was so that De Gois would come here, he mightn't have come for anything less.

    • Peats will not be moved from Peats haha Sorry had a little giggle at that one :)
  • As you saw last week dummy half was shared between Kelly, Paulo and even Sandow had time there in attack.

They will all rotate again (Degois for Kelly obviously)

I don't know what his signing means to Kaysa but may the best man win. Competition is healthy.

As for Peats being moved to lock can't see it happening.

  • I believe ba bought de dios to play 14 for the next 2 years to save peats. As much as i love peats 80 min is to long for him. The aggressive way he plays is damaging on his body, and 24 rounds of tha.t is to much i believe. If u look at it this way ba has just saved 200 g a year. We dont need jamie burher now.
    • Absolutely agree with you Craig, I mentioned this the other day, that peats is only human and playing that style of aggressive footy for 80 mins will take its toll on his body as we all witnessed. De gois will be either playing in Wenty or the number 14.
I also believe he came for more of a opportunity rather then the $$$.
  • Bring on izzy
  • De gois will not be playing Ron Massey cup ham, that is a ludicrous statement, I believe BA has already made his mind up with kaysa not in his future plans, he might have talent in the 20,s,I think he is still a few more years away playing against men and especially in the nrl, he seems brittle as it is.
No one knows the recovery of peats, so let's hope he comes back 100%. If he is still some time away come 2015 I think BA has signed a master stroke in de gois, he shall adapt to king Arthur's style and give 100% , it's more of a insurance signing moving forward. IMO
    • When both Peats and Pritchard are fully fit next year we could see De Gois lining up for Wenty in the RM cup.

  • Poor Kaysa hasn't helped his cause by being so injury prone. I'd say BA sees De Gois as a more reliable backup. Maybe BA thinks Peats could be playing SOO in the next couple of years so he wants to cover more than just injuries?

Anyway Kaysa is still young he'll still be only 22 when De Gois's contract is up so he has plenty of time to build a future with the club.

  • I'm not a fan on Prichard degois as our back up hooker, I wouldn't mind him at 14 either, peats has the will to play 80 but with niggling injuries I don't think his body will allow him too, so it might be smart to play him for 60 or so instead.
