  • We'll never have a 3pm kick off ever again, but the 5pm kick off was a decent compromise.

  • The AFL have stated in the past that the day and time of the grand final is never to be moved. They also extended the deal which means the MCG will host the grand final until 2037 I think.

Compare it to NRL, look at all the things they have removed or changed, they even scrapped the traditional grand final breakfast.
    • The only constant with the NRL is change

    • I think from what I read the first 50-60 years the grand final was played on a Saturday at 3PM, then it was shifted to Sunday afternoon, then Parramatta had to play in the first night final in 2001.

Then it was shifted to 5:30 then moved back again to a night final. They had the grand final breakfast for years, I thought that was great, then they scrapped it for a fan meet and greet day but I think that was scrapped as well.
      • Yeah, League Central has a very limited attention span

    • Who doesnt like an arvo kickoff. The NRL dont recognise the next generation of supporters are being lost to bed time. Hard to imagine the ratings wont be through the roof no matter what time the game is played.

  • The broadcasters dictate, simple as that
    • Only because the NRL allow them to do so for the money.

    • The AFL dictate to the broadcasters, simple as that.

  • Bullshit.

Youre not taking full advantage of GF day - start your celebrations at midday and go straight through mate.

Best thing they ever did was moving the GF to the evening - AFL will follow rest assured.
