DA's tenure "untenable": Pirtek boss

The CEO of Parramatta's major sponsor and board member Glen Duncan has told The Sunday Telegraph that he believe Stephen Kearney should replace Daniel Anderson as coach for 2011.

"I think the position is untenable for Daniel to stay," Duncan was quoted as saying. "Daniel's a good guy. I think he's had a hard time, but sometimes you've got to make these decisions for the club to move forward.

The Sunday Telegraph also reported on the recommendations from the coaching review that Duncan, Geoff Gerard and Paul Osborne conducted, which included: not to extend Anderson's contract; appoint a wrestling coach; address Anderson's communication skills with his staff; address the lack of player discipline and punctuality at training; more individual skill sessions; and the need for a better recruitment policy.

  • More quotes from Duncan in Herald, this one particularly resonated with me...

''As a businessman, I was shocked there were no structures, policies, procedures or disciplines in place,'' Duncan said. ''I thought of Parramatta as the envy of other clubs as far as structure but it had all fallen away. There was not even a one-year plan let alone a three- or five-year plan.''

  • I've been pretty sceptical about the wisdom of having the major sponsor on the board, but I have to say I'm impressed with Duncan's comments. They pretty much align with my thoughts: The club has gotten itself into a no-win position with DA and it has to start thinking big picture and working with a plan in mind.
  • well alot of us have thought parra have no structure and other problems this review says it all. no wonder the players back ando sounds like its a easy gig at parra.

i feel better about next year already good luck to kearney or whoever coaches
  • The talk about 2 months ago was that DUNCAN and SPAGNOLO wanted DA out and KEARNEY in. It appears that Pirtek also sponsor the NZ team and that is where the affiliation with KEARNEY has developed. The push has been for months and they had hoped DA would jump rather than being pushed.

I still think it is a pathetic situation for the great club to be in. As jask GIBSON said " success starts at the front office "

    Very true.
  • Yes parra need structure, but I think they should still have a little tigers play in them by throwing the ball around
  • I would say the tenure of Osborne & Spagnolo is untenable. From the outside looking in I have said the joint is a disfunctional rabble & now that view is confirmed by Duncan, "no structure, policies, procedures or disciplines" if DA has to go because of his failings as a communicator how about the proverbial broom comes out and we clean up a whole heap of these amateurs
  • We dnt have a wrestling coach???
Um why the hell not i thought every team did. NOt that i like the idea of that part of the game being around but WTF?

hahah need for a better recruitment policy is one of there recommendations, no shit
  • after reading duncans comments i'm glad he is there, a modern businessman not a dinosaur is just what our board needs in these modern times of business first footy second.
  • Draft plans for the new escalators.

  • Yes, the word is professional, how do we recruit / acquire more Professional business men or women and weed out the bowling club mentality mates & friends.

Thats why I can't see the Kearney appointment working, while we have the current administration of board room fans, we need wholesale change!
