BREAKING NEWS: The Brisbane Broncos’ biggest signing for 2015, Darius Boyd, has snapped his achilles tendon at training and will miss at least six months.
Boyd broke down at training this morning.
Boyd’s injury could not have happened at a worse time.
This was the end of his first full week back in training since completing a stint in rehab to treat depression.
The Maroons fullback had previously spoken enthusiastically about his return to Red Hill
“My heart is pumping a bit at the moment,” he said last week. “I’m excited, it (returning to the Broncos) is something I never thought would happen.
“I can’t change what happened in the past — but I’m looking forward to a new chapter in the future.”
The training mishap also throws into disarray the Broncos’ plans to fill the fullback position.
Coach Wayne Bennett granted releases to fullback hopefuls Ben Barba and Josh Hoffman to create room at the back, and under the salary cap, for Boyd.

Wouldn't wish a snapped Achilles on anyone. It is the most painful sporting injury out there. Had a tennis opponent do it. The sound was like a whip crack and he collapsed screaming. Best of luck to Darius because it is a very tough injury to come back from.
Screaming? Ach, what a wimp. I had a 3.5 ton forklift ran over my foot THREE times. Got a cuniform fracture on the instep of my foot and three broken bones beneath my toes...and I didn't fall down screaming...nooooo I was standing screaming and using profanity that would make a sailor blush...hah wimp...
Knights fans must be laughing...
