Danny Weidler: Moses Not On Roosters' Radar

Mitchell Moses a target for the Roosters? That was the case about eight years ago, but not any more.

Moses met with coach Trent Robinson and was offered $600,000 a year to join the Tricolours. Moses turned it down, and without knowing it, he did his dash with the club forever.

Fast-forward to today and the Roosters are wondering why they are being linked to Moses. Moses is now in the conversation as the best halfback in the game. His State of Origin series was better than any other Blues half since Andrew Johns 20 years ago.

However, Roosters chairman Nick Politis has already put a line through Moses’ name.

Firstly, because the club sees Sam Walker as its long-term No.7. Secondly, because he has vowed to never again deal with Moses’ agent, Isaac Moses. And then there was that rejection all those years back.

Mitchell Moses is unhappy with Eels management but, as it stands, he has been in positive discussions with incoming coach Jason Ryles.

The loss of Moses would be a hammer blow for the Eels after young gun Blaize Talagi knocked them back to join Penrith.

And there may be more pain to come, as Isaac Moses – who manages Talagi – also has a significant number of Parramatta’s best juniors on his books as well.

    • On top of that, if you get Moses you need another Five-Eighth as both Moses and Walker will not work. It will be like Moses and Norman all over again.

As you say with Brown and Walker, they would be laughing.

    • Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. The fact Eels management or Mosses himself haven't come out to publicly address this rumour, it's very concerning. I dare say the useless Eels management haven't even spoken directly with Mosses because they know Mosses is blaming them for the club's shit predicament it's in.

Think about it. The Eels management can't come out with a formal statement because they themselves haven't been able to sit down with Mosses. They're probably all cowering under their desks and asking Ryles or someone mutual to sort this shit out with Mosses.

      • Hooper writes article for exactly people like you. Bravo.

      • Sarantinos did address it I believe. Moses hasn't but I saw a report of Sarantinos saying simply he has a deal til 2026 at least and he is not being released.

      • You're an idiot right?

  • This is getting out of hand. The club is trying not to give all these rumours oxygen but at what point do they draw a line in the sand?
Moses giving James Hooper a big spray would be a good start. Despite the club putting Hooper's self made rumour to bed, today he was at it again on Triple M "suggesting" Moses will ask for a release. Even if that was slightly true, Moses is stuck here for 2 years. And there is no way he can leave without the club releasing him. Ryles has already said Moses will go to the moon before he's released from Parra. 2 years is miles away so speculating on that now is pointless. Ditto for all other players the club would never release.
It gets to a point where a bit of harmless rumour mongering by the usual suspects crosses a line. It's become a personal vendetta against the Eels and Mitchell Moses. It needs to be called out. Hooper is already an enemy, time we fought back.

    • Ryles has time, not a lot but still time to get Moses on board. As soon as whistle is blown at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 27, Ryles should be a pest to Moses to get him onside. Even giving him the captaincy alongside Gutho. Even negotiate to remove the options and have proper deal in place, add extra money to the last 2 years. Hell, get TPA's back in and add them to it. He has time, but as i discussed with Coryn during the week, get Moses committed 110% you get everyone else to follow, he signs and Brown has a better chance of taking the option, Hopgood re-signs, Penisini re-signs. Moses goes and everyone else follows.

We know why Hooper would try to have a rumour derail us, he is a Tigers man, he doesn't want them to get a 3rd straight spoon. Doing what he can to distract us and lose every game to get the spoon.

      • Ryles isn't the coach until season ends. Not much he can say officially. Moses can come out and say what he wants about his commitment to Parra but these days words mean zero. If it happens it happens. Time will tell and if Moses leaves it's not the end of the world.

        • I did say after Round 27.

    • Muttman, agree. Absolutely. Where did Ryles say, "Moses will go to the moon before he's released from Parra"? I like it. It's about time we got some tough talk coming out of the Eels.

What seems to be adding fuel to the Moses innuendo and discontent (which Hooper claims "is definitely not rumours") is the Moses camp has remained largely silent on it. Creepy Crawley is another on the Hooper bus and a few other have joined the circus caravan.

We don't have an official statement from the club, although Jim at least said something via the Telegraph the other day (Fatima).  I would have been a lot more aggressive about it (assuming it's prattling skuttebutt, and make suggestions about a small handful of agenda-driven prattling jabber heads who should know better at their age but they don't).

Aa soon as Mitchell is in front of the cameras again, it's going to be one of the first thing he's asked.

Personally, I don't understand what harm would be done if Mitchell said he was all in and put the rumours of agitating for an early release to bed. Unless he is actually "thinking" about it?

Buzz was saying he has spoken to Jim and Issac about it and just added Isaac can't confirm whether Moses will take up his options later.
