Daniel Mortimer unlikely to be a Dog

CANTERBURY legend Peter Mortimer is not expecting his son Daniel to follow in his footsteps by switching to the Bulldogs.Peter Mortimer, who was part of "The Entertainers" with his brothers Steve and Chris, said "something extraordinary" would have to happen for Daniel to leave the Eels when his contract expires at the end of this year."We told (Bulldogs coach) Kevin Moore we would come and see him before we sign anything with the Eels," Peter said. "But really it would take something extraordinary for him to leave the Eels because the club has been so good to him. We told Kev we would have a chat to him because he is a great bloke and the club is doing great things, but I can't see him leaving the Eels."Peter said second-year syndrome was more of a concern for Daniel than signing a new deal."We will wait until he plays at least half a dozen games before we do anything," Mortimer said. "Seeing how he goes in his second year is more important at the moment. We'll sort out the contract after that."http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/daniel-mortimer-unlikely-to-be-a-dog/story-e6frexnr-1225815528503

  • yes I hope Mortimer stays an eel. It must sting the bulldogs a bit having a Mortimer in a blue and gold jersey and I love that! Plus If we can keep Mortimer long term I think he will become more valuable to us than Hayne. Big Call but I think if he makes a switch to half back down the road, He could be the best 7 since Sterlo.
  • I think we should still start a countdown untill the telegraph starts another "Dogs target Mortimer" article and present it as news.

I set the line at 15 days:)
  • The part I like about this story is, "But really it would take something extraordinary for him to leave the Eels because the club has been so good to him" - It tells me that the structures in place at Parra now are working - Say what you like about Brian Smith, but every club he has been with, he has improved them professionally & left them in better shape when he's left. He may not have won a premiership but he's taken his teams close (2001, Newcastle were perfect in that first half, Brian couldn't go out & play for them!!)
    • What's Brian Smith got to do with the retention of Daniel Mortimer?? He came to the club after BS left and despite whatever structures BS put into place at the club, Mortimer wouldn't have specifically benefited any more than any other player!

I think the removal of Dennis Fitzgerald and the appointment of Paul Osborne is a far more pertinent reason why we might keep Mortimer!

"Why I don't think he will go to dogs is because his family seem to be fairly involved in his carear from what I read on tigers forum  and Gus would have no bar of any interference as where we would enable it like the tigers "

"It makes way more sense that Dogs are after DCE. An experienced halfback which is their missing link to a premiership. "

"According to NRL 360 Galvin is heading to the Bulldogs and Gould is typically doing his thing by not showing his cards. I'd be surprised if Galvin ends up at the Eels but it would be good if he did. "
