Dane

Plenty of talk about who will be in our backs next season but could Dane Akafolau start off on the wing? He has the build, speed, height and ability to break tackles. Thoughts?

  • (I know he’s a centre FYI)
  • I dont know enough about him;but form what i have seen he needs to pay attention to his defence.
  • Hi GFF.  I have been impressed with Dane from the first time I saw him and thought he could make the NRL grade.  I don't think he will be in the mix for first grade in the early rounds unless we have a lot of injuries.

If fit for Round 1, Gutherson and French will return to the team.  Gutherson is most likely going to replace Smith at fullback and French will replace Semi.

The pecking order for the guys below Gutherson and French for outside back positions are:

    1.  Hoffman, then

    2.  G. Jennings, then

    3.  GL & Akafolau.

Hoffman would be the next outside back in the pecking order and but for his injury late in the year he would have been in the team during the semi's.

    • Thanks for that mate. French/Hoffman and Auva’a wings is a bleak prospect haha
    • You forgot A'vau.
  • He can’t even shine in 20s
  • Yeah he is good. A few more first grade games and he can be the next Scott Mahon. Get the rocks out of your heads fellas
  • If he didn't have first grade potential we wouldn't have offered him an NRL contract.

  • Perkins paste... there's a blast from the past. Heaps of kids at school used to eat it.

  • Hi PF, I didn't forget about Auva'a.  Auva'a is still in the top 17 until he is dropped and is another person in front of Dane.  When you consider we still have 3 strong first graders still to return it will be hard for a young guy to break into the top team.
