Dale Finucane

At age 30 you can argue his best years are behind him.

however this guy is a hard nosed competitor and out and out winner.

how you'd fit him in the cap and roster is another arguement but I'd have him at Parra in a heartbeat for what he would bring to the club in terms of educating others in championship winning habits and behaviours.... one of my favourite players of the past 5-10 years.

  • A tough competitor, good player no doubt. However, I don't see how he fits into our squad. He's a ball playing lock and we have one of those who is two years younger. I don't think Finucane will be looking for a bench spot. He'll want to start.

Our priority should be on an outside back and continued depth. I don't think you improve this team much more for the salary cap hit you'd take if you tried to buy another starting 13 player. Our recruitment process at the moment is very much to find value for money and I don't think Finucane provides that. He'd be asking for a decent chunk of change and we've already locked up our three starting middles.

    • I take on those points - however to win a comp in my opinion we have a gap in mental toughness and belief and I'd see him being that guy to bring that into the group - in my opinion it's less about on field (although he is outstanding) but more about game day prep, attitude in big games and being a winner

the way we've been blown off the park in sone big games has nothing to do with ability in my opinion

      • Maybe, but he would be taking the place of a guy who does have that killer instinct. It doesn't improve us.
And always beware signing ex Melbourne forwards. They never play to their money

    • I think Newcastle tell the story of why they bought Ben Kennedy to the club because they needed his hard nosed winning attributes and recruited him specifically to bring that to the Knights.

I agree we are one class outside back short - but being a championship winning team is more to do with doing what winners do as it is about ability and talent.

in my opinion we lack out and out winners

Melbourne continue to be a winning team because of their habits and standards that come from Bellamy and his senior players - in my opinion we are close but being a championship winning team is going to need more than a talented young centre or fast winger

      • You prosecute a good case Ember's with that Kennedy example, but rather than Finicane  I would rather go for  Angus Crichton, soley because he is younger, probably similar price, but a leader with a degree of football nounce and be positioned easier into the team. I also see him as smarter than the average league forward. .

The points have been made as to how he fits, but he could take an edge off Matterson and mean leaving Brown at Lock. Matterson is not delivering and a bench or leave role would be as good/close as it gets. That would leave a back three of Pappa, Brownie and Crichton, combine with our middles and Hooker, we would then have a bench of Matto/Cartwright, Kaufusi, Niukore and say Roache/Lussickand all the young forwards we have identified this season. .

With that bench you also could consider starting Niukore in the centres with "new centre" and "new winger". Wong's group of Tupou and Campbell Graham would be a pretty formidable backline to go with the best pack in the comp.

Cap costs mean some pruning.  Fergs leaving gives us a credit of $500k and its time for some private sponsors TPA's for some others to create room.

      • Yes but the Knights brought BK in because they were light on for forwards at the time, he wasn't taking out another rep forward

  • Push brownie to the front row. Start rcg or junior off the bench. Finucane plays 80 mins. He's the defensive axe perfect for our side.

    • Why would you even consider starting RCG from the bench.  He has been one of our best signing in years.  Killing it!

      • I think Paulo is a better option from the bench put him on at the 30 min mark and leave him on
