D Day For The NRL!

Come today the nrl must make a decision on Anthony Watmoughs retirement and the future of the Parramatta Eels. The board has called their bluff and refused to stand down. This needs to be sorted this week, the Eels board and nrl need to work together and do what is best for the Eels fans period. We have suffered enough dud calls from the referees and too much turmoil over the past 6 years. We won't be trodden on any longer.Fix it or face one of the biggest boycotts in the history of the game. Our Leagues Club can afford a year long boycott, but the nrl, Foxtel and Nine cannot.I'm willing not to watch the game on Friday to prove our worth as fans, are you?

  • Agree Kurupt
Support the boys but if is not going to support our team - just the NRL then don't do it
  • Well spoken, lets play for points. Word is this Friday will be a sellout. Amazing stuff.
  • Why are the making the Watmough decision today?
    • Shubert is meeting the nrls new Shubert today, nrl need to stamp the Watmough thing today and quit dragging their heels with everything.
    • Like what ?? Cheating is cheating mate weather 200 000 or 570 000 it's still been intentionally hidden from the NRL as the article it a post below stipulated were far better off not dragging our heels ourselves and just accept things and move on this dribble from people like kurupt ( name speaks for itself) is so one sidedly bias that it isn't funny

NRL dragging its heels lol if we came to the table with everything last year ( yep 8 months ago NRL have made us wait a week fool ) when we should have we would have just lost 4 points and it would be all over now my god
  • Ah right, I knew they wee meeting but didn't realise they would give us the answer today. Good stuff.

  • We should certainly argue that we deserve a reduced points penalty. Its open to the NRL to change the penalty.

I think the NRL's theory was that we'd been intentionally rorting the cap for years and the culmination of all that dodgy stuff had enabled us to build the current team. So that anything won by the current team while over the cap should be lost.

I can see why they'd argue that but there are also some flaws with that argument.

  • Well said mate

  • The NRL wont give us our points back... Even though they stated they took the points away only because we were over the cap...

Dave Smith is looking alot better at the moment inst he....

  • Agreed that we should show our support as fans, but I disagree that the NRL has to do anything this week. That fair process thing cuts both ways. The NRL announced its preliminary sanction and stipulated no points accrual until we were u see the cap and the Board stepped down. Yes, you are right that the Board called their bluff. But having done so, the NRL was afforded the luxury of granting 28 days. At the end of that, they can uphold the penalty, right? So at that point their initial allowance for us to save the season, 12 from 15, evaporates as if they deduct all points accrued we are obviously toast. Maybe they will only deduct 12, or less, who knows. But our bluff means the club is betting all or nothing while the NRL is in a win-win situation (they could look good by compromising or wipe our season and say it was the Boards choice to go all in). But, again, that 28 day process means the NRL is not obliged to do anything before it expires. Again, if you rely on process, it cuts both ways.

"If you are going to do that better off just keeping him in Cup as a break glass option. Unless he is that much of a cancer and that negative to the squad that he needs to go."
