CURRENT AUSTRALIAN TEAM

Watching them play yesterday was boring and predictable.

Surely we have 2 better centres going round?

Having Gallen, Watnough and Lewis in the same side does not work.

The only thing i saw work was the Cronk / Smith combination.

What changes do we suggest?

The first is Gidley, was he playing second row for the last 10 minutes? He made 2 errors. Gotta go.

The scond is Tonga and Tate, Jonathan Wright runs better angles than them both.

  • I'm still miffed as to how Matt Scott missed out on selection altogether.
You'd think that Boyd would have to feature somewhere next week as well.

I'd bring in Carney for Gidley as well.
  • Tonga needs to come out of his shell, he has not proved himself at all in rep footy, show us your bloody footwork and fend!
  • We never really got out of second gear did we.
I think we need to start with Dave Shillngton at prop, with Nate Myles to the back row with Thaiday and Gallen. Luke Lewis was superb I thought yesterday and I'd put him in the centres for Tate. Agree on Carney for Gidley, Leahroyd Lars was solid. I think Boyd should also be on the wing in place of Morris. Tuquiri was strong yesterday, although he looked like he should have been playing for the other team. Something like this: Slater, Boyd, Tonga, Lewis, Tuquiri, Lockyer, Cronk, Gallen, Thaiday, Myles, Shillington, Smith, Petero Res: Leahroyd Lars, Watmough, Carney, Bird/Scott
  • Changes:

    1. Billy Slater
    2. Darius Boyd
    3. Chris Lawrence
    4. Willie Tonga
    5. Lote Tuquiri
    6. Darren Lockyer
    7. Cooper Cronk
    8. David Shillington
    9. Cameron Smith
    10. Petero Civonecieva
    11. Luke Lewis
    12. Sam Thaiday
    13. Paul Gallen

    14. Kurt Gidley
    15. Matt Scott
    16. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs
    17. Anthony Watmough
  • i agree about the centre. how tate was picked i dnt no. tonga inst so bad but i would rather see matt cooper or jennings in there somewhere(injured inglis and lyon). in the second row i liked lewis and gallen.lewis looked really dangerous the whole match but watmoughs gotta go fo maybe glenn stewart if hes availble. with 2 attacking 2ndrowers it woul even be a good idea to throw a tackling machine like hindy in there. gidley wasnt used right tho looked dangerous. i dnt see how he or carney will fit into the team considering we had a 80min hooker.
  • Slater
    Boyd
    Lawrence
    Jennings
    Morris
    Lockyer
    Cronk
    Gallen
    Thaiday
    Lewis
    Petero
    Smith
    Shillington

    Carney
    Learoyd Lars
    Bird
    Scott
  • Lewis was superb yesterday, as was Gallen. Personally, as well as he played this season, I can't find a place for Nate Myles in the starting team. Like you, I'd start with Shillington and Petero but I wouldn't move Lewis out of 11.

We don't really have too many other options in the centres for Tate with the only option being Chris Lawrence. I wouldn't tempt fate by playing players out of the positions they play for their clubs so Darius Boyd either plays fullback or, at a pinch, on the wing.
  • Jennings was ruled out through injury and haven't we all seen enough of Matt Cooper??

    Mark Gasnier anyone??
  • Good suggestion. His footwork at the line is sensational.
    • I totally agree Bourbon, i think its safe to say "Matt Cooper -never again!"
