Cronk immediate release?

Now, I realise I'm getting well ahead of myself because no deal has been signed but you know these things get discussed and it does start the brain ticking.

But would the Storm offer Cronk an immediate release?

My original thinking was that if Cronk was released, it would mean that the Storm wouldn't have to pay the rest of his salary for this year and that perhaps that might help them for next year. I still don't know exactly how that is all going to work? How payments that are over for this year factor into next year's salary. There was some discussion about this when it all happened but I think that might have been related to paying out contracts they don't honour next year or something.

Anyway, even if you leave all that behind if you know Cronk is not going to be here next year and that you're intending to bring up your NYC half as an example, wouldn't you just say to Parra take him now so we can start the re-building process and use the rest of the year to blood our young bloke. That's what I would be doing.

On the flipside, you'd have to question whether the NRL would allow it as it would certainly be seen as an unfair advantage to us? On the other hand, let's say we released a player like Krisnan?

Anyway, no chance I reckon for any number of reasons, and personally I wouldn't want it to happen, but hey its Friday afternoon.

  • I think you might have a little 'crush on Cronk' 1Eyed??
    • No Pugger - if Cronk comes, 1Eyed will no longer be able to use his favourite sledge -

      'Cronk's a donk!'.
    • I think I'm the only person who doesn't want see Cronk here, actually, Pugger.

Do I want to swap players who bleed Blue and Gold for someone from the Melbourne Storm? Not on your life.

    • I don't think it was so much him asking for a release, it was more so "If you guys don't want me, then lets come to a deal so I can go elsewhere and make it happen". Part of that deal was clearly us contributing to his Storm salary.
  • Another classic sledge from 1Eyed. Not quite as good effective as telling Blair he was fat all game, but still a psychological killer.
  • Bleeding B & G is a damn fine quality ...but by having a replacement number 7 who is superior quality who can learn to bleed..... would give us the required edge to win a comp.....unfortunately we don't have it at present......
  • He will turn it into a positive and call him Cronk THE Donk!!
  • I don't want Cronk either. I would keep Mateo or even Inu over him anyday. Born and bred Parra players for life.
    • I want Cronk. F..k the so called players who bleed the 'Blue and Gold.' This sport is a business now and you are naive to think otherwise. I haven't seen Mateo and Inu bleed too much for the team over the last three years. i would rather have a talented, ultra professional footballer who knows how to win and may just provide that ingredient we have been missing since 1986. I'd take Cronk for Mateo and Inu anyday, plus throw in a few extras.
  • dont want any of their 4 cheaters , it would give us a dirty name
