Could the salary cap eventually be scrapped?

And we become like the EPL. It's obvious that the rich clubs like Broncos and Storm would always be at the top. The rest of the teams will make the numbers and focus more on rivalries than winning competitions. And maybe bring back the mid week cup which could be a tournament that the poorer clubs could win.The salary cap is not working!!!

  • No, the salary cap and TPA set up must stay. The only way to run a fair and even competition....

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Maybe increase the cap?
    • Publish all TPAs and salaries and everything will work just fine .
  • No, but it will keep increasing indefinitely.

  • As they do in the NFL and NBA.

  • Only when it suits them they place nominal values on players . Just today we've read how Coote may take a substantial pay cut to stay in NQ . I guess with mansions going for $350K up there ( only if you play for The Cows and all approved by The NRL ) you could afford to take less money couldn't you .
  • I don't think it matters what they put in. What's the point of having a CAP & TPA's  if the NRL can't enforce the rules. If you put in a structured wage system, our best will be poached by other codes and if you place limits on TPA's, then agents will find a way around it.

    • As Poppa once said on here, the best management structure that the Eels could possibly have is a benevolent dictatorship. This way all this white-anting disappears.

Never thought I would say I agree, but here it is, I DO!!

  • Every year since TPA's were introduced, including this year, we have spent less on our footy team than The Storm, The Broncos, The Cowboys, The Dogs and of course The Roosters, yet we are possibly about to be rubbed out of the competition for supposedly cheating. They're all not cheating, so how do we get accused of cheating when we spend LESS on our footy team?

    Somethings broken.

I reckon the salary cap is good for the game, but it has to be policed, and TPA's need to be radically overhauled.

    Won't happen though . . . .

  • It would be good if the NRL could do the cap on a points system instead of $, that way it wouldn't matter what clubs are paying. Admittedly it would be difficult to set up but maybe each player could be given certain amount of points based on what they did the previous season, extra points for rep footy, deductions for injuries etc.
When contracts are made that's the points that the player is worth for the duration of the contract. It would certainly reward clubs taking a punt on young players and giving them decent contracts.
I don't know. There has to be a better way.

"I did modern day as 1998 onwards as I didn't see them play, as some here haven't. Where I believe majority of people here have seen all the modern day players play.
Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
