COULD REED BE THE NEW MAROON NUMBER 9

After seeing the number 9 contenders for the Qld Maroons, i strongly believe young Reed Mahoney is primed for the hooking role. Even though he might have a lack of big game and NRL experience, one appearance in the SOO will give him more confidence that will greatly boost his game for our beloved Eels.I hope predict if he gets picked, he might come off the bench for Ben Hunt depending on the DCE injury.Go Eels!

  • His coach picked peni terepo over him a week ago in what is essentially the worst team in the NRL based on current wooden spoon status. But you never know, Qld seem to get lucky and their unexpected players tend to rise to the occasion, e.g. Adam Mogg.

  • Doubt that, Darren Lockyer was on a show yesterday and never mentioned Reed. Given he's a QLD selector it's unlikely Reed would even be in the discussion.

  • Nah he's a liability in defence. He needs to fix that in his game first. Our ruck defence has been woeful.

    • You are joking right? His defence is very good. In fact one of our best defenders. Has a great technique imo.

      • Looked *amazing* in the 3 big defeats where we were smashed down the middle.

There is a reason why BA kept him off for the first 20 against Melbourne, and why they blew us away after that first 20.

        • He is sitting 4th in the comp with over 400 takes at 88.8% efficiency. Reed is a good defender. And Brad Arthur leaving him off for the first 25 minutes was the stupidest thing I have seen a coach do! Not only did he leave off one of the best players we have he also took Gutho out of attack by playing him at hooker.

          • There's no denying that our ruck defence is woeful and we're struggling in the middle of the park. All of the opposition attack has gomelne through the middle of Paulo and Reed, it's our biggest problem at the moment. Until we fix it, we're in big trouble.

            • Bro stats don't lie. Our big men in the MIDDLE are the problem. Paulo which you mentioned, Alvaro and Morea have been poor in defence. Reed has been averaging 40+ takes a game with nearly 90% efficiency. Reed imo is one of the most in form hooker this season. Our forward pack need to harden up and stop being lazy in defence

              • Nope. fuuuui right. Mahoney gets left on the ground far too often not getting back up to marker.

                He’ll work that deficiency out.

(My tip is he’ll play game 3 btw after the Blues are up 2 zip and the series and Ben Hunt are gone).

                • No his not, like I said stats don't lie.

"I would accept that if it was their first time or second time in Darwin. This was their 10th. He knew exactly the conditions."
