A Four Nations hangover has left damaging Newcastle centre Joey Leilua in the firing line as Knights coach Rick Stone concedes he is desperate to find a place in his squad for dynamic youngster Sione Mata’utia.
But a lay-off after the tournament and late start to pre-season training with the Knights has left the 110kg centre behind the eight-ball in the fitness department.
That’s opened the door for Australia’s youngest Kangaroo, Mata’utia, to potentially slip in under his guard and snare a centre berth alongside Dane Gagai for round one.
Would he be another piece to the Parramatta puzzle?
A fit Leilua is up with the most damaging, ball playing forwards with the ability to break a game right open.
