Straight from his wife on MMM this week

https://www.triplem.com.au/sport/nrl/news/the-story-of-how-corey-parker-was-offered-700-000-to-play-post-retirement#

How can the NRL realistically ever mention notional value again.  Everyone knew the broncos rorted cap yet here is evidence straight from players wife. I pretty sure he hasn't gotten by on only that much as he had 3rd party agreements but were they all arms length.  Probably not.

Have other clubs been told pay players worth on salary cap and had to change offers. Yes.

How is a regular SOO and international player of Coreys quality allowed to be on cap for 275k.

  • Hence why player wages and TPA’s must be published.

It’s the only way to fix this, transparency.

If Greenberg was serious he’d do this. He’s not.

  • ive said it time and time before .tpa"s must be capped.who gives a damn who organises a tpa  we all know the clubs do most deals. cap tpa:s @$2m        any club caught cheating. loss of all points. start following season minus 6 points and tpa cap reduced by $1m. if any club wants to risk cheating with a penalty like this . good luck there is always a disgruntled player or official just waiting to gits their evil.

    • All wages and 3rd party agreements should be paid to the NRL who then pay to the players. If any player receives any money outside a direct payment from the NRL, they know it isn't cap compliant and must be self reported. It's easily fixed, have the players actually be responsible for the payments they clearly know are dodgy i.e. Greg Inglis getting his dad a boat.
    • I am sure that you would be aware but this is not Ben Ikin's idea it is how the system works in the US. NFL or NBA I am not sure.

  • Go thru every player at Broncs for past 10 yes or more. Not one ever has been paid on the cap or real value. All have received more than half their wages as extra top ups on and above their alleged salary.
And this is surprising to anybody.?
  • He also didn't have a manager and negotiated all his own deals (including 3rd payments)

  • Our CEO supports it.

    • Latimore from the dragons supports the idea and he is part of the RLPA leadership group. However having said that Cam Smith would never support it and he is top dog in the RLPA among the players I think.

This is something that Beatie needs to address if he wants to reclaim credibility for the game.

  • Parker said in his own autobiography that when he decided to negotiate his own affairs that he went into the meeting with the ceo thinking it was his last contract at the club he’d given his whole career to and that he’d be looked after financially and they offered him like $250k a year... he then had to negotiate it up. Clubs take advantage of players who don’t have agents negotiating for them, as it removes the kickbacks managers give to clubs and vice versa
