It looks more and more likely that Fergo won't resign with Eels. While we all believe that Waqa Blake should be playing as a winger, I don't know if BA has considered or is keen on the idea. So would Corey Oates be a good option? He seems to be out of favour at the Broncos, and I thought he has played pretty good this year. As long as he wants to play on the wing and not the backrow, I could see this as a decent replacement for Fergo. After all, he was an origin winger.

I think Blake would be a very very good winger, as for oats he would be asking for more than what Parra would probably be willing to pay imo

He certainly fits our style, but he doesn't have Fergo's work rate, and if you're nervous about Fergo under the high ball, Oates won't help that anxiety

Fergo on a year to year deal for reasonable dollars would be a good outcome. He's obviously tested the market and if no one is biting then our retention strategy has once again worked well. Fergo is still the best we have - yes he makes a few errors each game, but the metres he eats are huge and he still has some strike power in him.
Sign him for a year on a modest salary, and if a better option comes along he can wait it out in reserves. His best may be behind him, but he's still an excellent player.
Sure, he's lost some of his class in other areas but fergo plays as a prop inside our 20. He sets the standard for the set of 6 and does a very good job doing so. Gone are the days of judging wingers based purely on try stats. But he's not young, so a year to year deal would be a great outcome for us.

Ferguson's carries out of our own half are invaluable.
Fergo year to year is a better choice than Oates. Fergo until we unearth a junior good enough or go for another moneyball signing. We can always push Waqa out on the wing if Fergo goes down.
