Corey Norman rejects contract extension

hi guys,

just got a notification that norman rejected contract extension (3yrs $1.8M).

wondering if anyone knows some of the ins on this? were there limited TPA's associated to it given the NRL investigation?

I understand that the panfers are interested which was why he rejected the offer. typical business i guess, as he will want to see their offer then return to the eels to see their counter offer?

IMO we should easily fit him in given the cap will be over $10M in 2018. 600K for our key playmaker when the cap increases by over 50% in 2 years time seems insanely under valued.

anyone know anything?

cheers!

  • Would it be safe to say, the clubs hands would be a little tied up until the Wati insurance thing is cleared? Can't imagine we'd be coming at Corey with a 600k offer if serious.

Guess they'd be a few interested in Corey, esp Titans who are probably cashed up too.

Good thing for us he is wanting to stay and we want to keep him.
BA has stated "every single one of them wants to stay"
  • start winning gamees and 3rd parties should come knocking one would think

    • ah sweet. sorry! didn't see this one! :)

  • I think we have time to develop a good team culture to win than relay on Normans' availability. I am a Norman fan since his Brisbane days and happy he is here but we have a lot of admin to fix..trial Foran @5/8 and Cornish @ #7.
  • This will be a long negotiation and I think Corey will want to remain an Eel.

He looks like he's in a good place. The good thing is he'll be trying to improve on his already good form to be aiming for a $800 k a year contract

  • Who cares what he wants

    PAY HIM !!!

I would sacrifice Peats - getting a tackling forward that offers little in attack is FAR easier to replace than a 5/8 with genuine representative skills....future SOO star and Kangaroo for sure

    NO BRAINER

    • Absolutely Tele.
With the salary cap rising in 2018, $800k will seem like a steal.
Norman and Fiz WILL deliver us a premiership if we can keep them together.
Let Peats walk if he doesn't want to be a team player and part of a premiership winning side.
  • Need to keep this halves combo we have its almost too good to be true
  • I don't want to lose any of our current crop.

We should be able to sign another prop after losing Pauli Pauli, Joseph Paulo, Junior Paulo and perhaps Watmough.

Agreed pay him enough to keep him.

  • I think it really sux that this has made its way into the media (assuming it's true).
I would love for us to more like the Storm when it comes to recruitment. The first you hear is that he has re-signed or has chosen to go elsewhere. None of the soap opera style contract negotiations.

Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
