Corey Norman Impresses

I was really impressed with Corey Norman the other night.

We had a few attacking issues early and he took a real positive approach in dismantling the bulldogs by engaging the line.

We really came out strong in the second half and if it wasn't for injuries and a woeful completion rate Corey would have had more chances to mount attacking pressure.

The key for the Eels now is to maintain the energy in our game whilst increasing our completion rate and  playing percentage foot ball.

Too many times they are pushing passes that aren't on rather than just playing smart footy and building pressure.

I really think Nathan Peats needs to increase minutes at Dummy Half and we may need to look at bringing Peni Terepo into the side at the expense of Issac Degois. Overall though if we can increase our completions and mount pressure through our halves we should knock over the Warriors

  • The thing that I was impressed with was Corey going to the line, playing direct and either hitting Manu, as we saw for his first try, or rolling it into the in-goal. His only blemish was the forced offload that led to a try against us. If he plays like that next week I can definitely see us getting on top of the Warriors. With their big pack, the last thing they want to do is to have to make decisions in defence.
  • If you want to have higher completions the last player you bring in is Peni Terepo.

  • I wouldnt be getting rid of IDG just yet.

If it wasnt for his and Peats defense, I believe the score would have been much worse.

I think the one thing that is working in the forward pack is the 2 hookers. Unless Peats is complaining, I wouldnt change a thing.

  • I think peats be playing 5/8 on the weekend Norman playing half

  • Our forwards dominated the dogs, easy meters up the middle. Our most effective back combination Taka/Semi was starting to work the left edges, but as soon as Semi and Sandow (our most potent attack options) came off, the wheels really came off.

Corey Norman was impressive, but a lot of credit needs to go to the thrust of the forwards. The forwards had the Dogs back pedalling thoughout the game.

  • Where are all the Norman haters at now?
  • Norman played well and will only get better. Our attack was good except the handling errors and when Seffa comes on as he is to perdictable and just pushes our attack out of room. He is also a liability in defense and a powder puff.

  • I would not drop DeGois as he is going alright. We may need to push either Peats or DeGois into the 7 position if Sandow is out injuried. Either would fill that position adequitly.

  • He'll probably leave us now
  • I have to give credit to Norman, I didn't think he would carry his Nines form into the regular NRL season. I didn't think he would run to the line. Last game however he did do that.

The first try in game 1, I put down to a set play and some great decoy runners in Watmough and Ma'u rather than Norman. However against the dogs with a lot of injuries in the team and Sandow off the field he seemed to take charge and step his game up a bit.

    Keep up the good work.
