Have just read an article that Wayne was in secret talks with Eels management and declined us multiple times saying he had unfinished buisness at South Sydney.
If this report is true, which it probably is (eels board likely leaked it to media to make fans satisfied that they tried to get bennet but couldn't) then this move is confusing. I understand BA needed to go but if I had the choice between Barret and BA for the rest of the season I would at least let Mitch Moses come back and see how the season goes from there. Why in the world would we do this if we have no chance of getting bennet? At least let BA see out the season and fire him at the end of the year the same coaches will be available anyway, extremely dumb decision if the report is correct considering all that BA has done for the club.

Now with BA gone we can let the smoke settle. It needed to happen, players and coaching staff and the club didn't need full on blasting by fans. Now we know it's happening and have a opportunity for coaches to come calling us. Also with any players who want to leave, we have time to get other options and trades sorted. Hopefully with the release of ba coming out Bennett might realise we are fair dinkum.
It's not that confusing, I think the board would want to give Arthur enough time to get a position for next year, as cutthroat an industry as coaching is we owe Arthur our thanks..We also need to be clear to the coaches that are available that we are serious about moving on and forward.
I haven't given up on Bennett but if not him then time to secure Madge or Jason Ryles immdeiatley.
I think it's not confusing at all. Now the band-aid is ripped off we can get some air on the wounds.
Now there won't be uncertainty for the rest of the year, no rumours of behind the back manoeuvres.
Give the club enough time to interview candidates in a timely manner and not rushed. Then any potential recruits a clear idea who the coach will be. It also gives the new coach time to work out who stays and who goes.
Because waiting until the end of the season is far too late to start preparing for next year. It's an acknowledgement that 2024 is already over and now we start organising for next year.
