Co-captain

We all know that Mannah will be a captain this year. He certainly puts in the hard yards at training and he presents a wholesome media image. On field leadership is up for debate but his position is unlikely to change whether you agree with it or not.The subject which we'll soon get an answer on is the other co-captain. For anyone who's read my training blogs, you will remember that I've discussed all of the leaders that we have in the squad. Watmough is brilliant at training. He's like an extra coach, but I'd be surprised if he was given this role. peats is also a leader but may not play 80 minutes given IDGs presence. I liked the work of Champion but as a new player not guaranteed a role he's almost impossible to get the nod.So, in looking at the training and the need for someone who is potentially 80 minutes every week, I'm going to nominate Hoppa, both as the person I want to see in the role and the person I expect to see.His leadership at training is first class and he is constantly barking instructions. With other leaders in the squad, I think we'll be well served with leaders this year.So, who do you want to see in the role and who do you expect to see? Will your answer be the same to both questions?

I think it should be choc, Champion if fit could be an interesting choice, he is very well respected by everybody at souths and seen as a pretty smart bloke.

Peats is the other choice as you said 60s, i would actually take the captaincy off Tim, and start training a young Peats into the role, or just give it to choc, as you know im not a mannah/capt fan.

  The Mannah captaincy change won't happen, rightly or wrongly. I too would be happy with Watmough but given that Mannah will lead, I expect a back to cocaptain. Hence, Hoppa.

Brother Timmy can deal with the refs for us. He's hard-arsed enuff.

PS Shouldn't a captain or co-captain be on the 1Eyed banner???

I think it shoukd be peats on his own, an 80 min player, great attitude and communicates well.

  Mannah won't be stripped of the captaincy. That stuff mainly happens with indiscretions or a request from the player. Given that Tim doesn't play 80 minutes, another captain is needed.

I would have completely agreed with you and laughed at the thought before I saw them train this week. Never knew he had it in him but the coach did..

Give it to hoppa as you suggested, I feel a big year for him and will give him the added bonus of leading the team and another carrot for when he's contract is up

I don't like the co captaincy idea, I'd rather see a vice captain who assumes the role when Mannah is off the field or injured.

My vice captain would be Peats.

Personally I think Peats is too angry to talk to the Refs on the field.

Both he and Choc will be great on field leaders and don't need a C next to their names to lead.

Personally Sandow is the right combination of personality to deal with Refs, someone who can have a bit of a running joke but still get his point across.

Tims and Hoppa are too polite, but Tim will keep the Captaincy for the overall team.

  I like Sandow but his incident with the ref last year would suggest his temperament is not suited. I prefer to let him worry about his own game.
