CLUB's reputation is everything

I heard the news about HOUSTON being suspended as the 2nd knights play charged with drug supply. This behaviour whether proven or not proven destroys a Club's reputation and credibility.

I ask this ?

Who are these players : HOUSTON & WICKS !. They are average first graders who have brought down the reputation of Newcastle for their selfish and pathetic behaviour. I think of Newcastle and I remember Harragan, O'davis, Johns, Gidley...that 1997 famous victory and a team that played it hard and fair. Now they will be remembered for these two grubs.

I am sick of the crap that it is often thrown about including the reference to ecstacy and speed being ' recreational drugs ' or ' party drugs '. It is DRUGS - it is illegal and it stuffs up lives. They will have their day in court and they will have their opportunity to defend these allegations but the reputation and name of Newcastle will be linked to these grubs for ever.

No club is squeeky clean but players have to know they represent communities and ordinary people. What they say , do or act affects the lives of a lot of people . There would be a battler working his arse off in some low job who lives and breathes the knights and it is all that keeps him going in his life. This HURT's him directly and affects his life. Yes, the players involved are under the pump and their actions affect their family etc but they dont think of that when they are supplementing their already healthy NRL wages with profits from sales.

Brain snap maybe - but please dont say Sorry - this would have been well known amongst the players and it takes balls sometimes to break this culture and speak out....

I hope they have a go this year - they have a whole community to think of. The people of Newcastle and rugby league deserve better.

Go Parramatta - keep that dream alive.

The basic point I am making or tried to make is that this generation of footballers hold clubs to ransom. They get paid more money than brain surgeons, they have a captive audience of young people who look at these blokes as role models and idols. They do things that completely tarnish the reputation and good name of those before them in every club.

I figure that every time the lastest crop of eels enter the field, they represent all that is parramatta - including Sterlo, kenny, Price, Cronin, ella........ That emblem is something that should inspire not be taken for granted by some average joe blows that look to cash in with drug supply income.

If it isnt Newcastle it somewhere else I suppose.......

Completely agree with this blog... but I also chuckled a bit when you mentioned Newcastle's 1997 win, but not their 2001 win lol... I suppose there is a reason for that haha. :P

Don't forget O'Davis and McDougall back in the day...oh and Johns a few years back....I guess there ain't much else to do in Newcastle, I went up there last year for the game we won against the Knights and stayed the night in a hotel, man there is nothing to so up there, it really doesn't suprise me, it's a strange place

ha ha, yeah with some strange folks - just went to a bucks weekend where the majority of the blokes were from Newcastle. They are a different breed!

Recky, I agree with your thoughts on the behaviour but I'm certain young players have seen a hell of a lot of similar things to what they are doing. I think the difference is the public in general, the police to a certain extent and especially the media don't give the current players the protection that was afforded players of the past. Please don't think I'm critical of the behaviour crackdown, I just know for a fact players of the past were much more protected - Andrew Johns is the perfect example.

I think you would need more than an overnight stay to see the real newcastle.It has some of the best beaches in the country as well as the vineyards plus some great pubs and entertainment.I was born and bred in Newcastle but i bleed blue and gold.

Nobody cares..... Newcastle will not be rememebered for this incident.

Think about all the alcohol related incidents of the past 5 years. Drug scandals, group sex scandals.... etc.

Has not hurt the game one bit. LG left Cronualla because of the GFC its just that the bad behaviour was conveniant timing.

Ratings at all time high..... PEOPLE JUST DON'T CARE.
