  • Gould knows his stuff  Cleary to Panthers. Now some clever signings to Bulldogs. They will do well under his stewardship

    • 5 years is a bit though, only issue is look how well Penrith did after Gould left?

Ciraldo knows Gould well but wait and see how it goes once Ciraldo wins games and Gould doesn't get credit, undermining happens and falls apart, still need a great 7 to be great.

Ciraldo will be a good coach, but as Madge showed not all great coaches work at every club.

But really narrows it down to Flanagan as the only one worth considering if we move on from BA

Green could've been one, after that it's all rookies or unknowns.

      Ryles rookie

      Young rookie

      Wane only coached on ESL

Woolf would have been good but going to Dolphins

      Walker Bros no thanks

      Hannay rookie

Toovey nobody wants him despite 58% winning record.

Yes nobody wants Flanagan but think the whole suspension thing has tarnished his reputation and if given the job he will have more motivation to prove them all wrong.

      • You forgot Slater rookie?

          • Slater? Based on what Origin? It's match preparation and motivation.

If there is a Smokey we should look at it is Marc Bretnall from Melbourne, he should be the one Storm should hire if Bellamy gives it a miss

            • Brentnall based on what?
Never coached his own team, only been in the storm system since a ball boy!
Aidan Obrian, Kearney, Arthur, yep they have all been in that system.
if your theory is Brentnall because he has had Bellemy as a mentor then you would go Ryles before him surely as he has been to the storm and roosters.

              • Still better candidate than Slater who has never been an assistant

            • I'd take Slater for a few reasons. He was a champion fullback who directed defence from the back. I think he'd change our structure.

I like the way he breaks down plays in commentary. When we played the Panthers he didn't just say we lacked the killer instinct but gave examples of when we made a half break we'd go to a settler play. He explained how he would have attacked in the next play the ball and where. I think he has an attacking element to his nature rather than the conservative nature that BA appears to have.

It would be hard to get him away from Qld and would appear to be a natural to take over from Bellamy but you have to ask questions. I think Neil Henry would be a great assistant along with Josh Hannay.

              • I had the same thoughts Rusty. Slater has impressed me with how he dissects the game.
What do we have to lose here? We need a new approach. Try to sign Slater. Although I expect we won't chase him and he wouldn't come here anyway, we can't have nice things.

                • MB, off topic, I was at the servo about an hour ago a fella pulled in behind me on the bike below. I'm not a Harley bloke but I've gotta say that it was one of the most magnificent pieces of kit that I've ever seen..
