Chris Anderson's plan to blunt Hayne

CHRIS ANDERSON knows how to win premierships, having tasted grand final success with the Bulldogs in 1995 and the Storm in 1999. He also knows how to thwart the individual brilliance of opposition matchwinners - and before tonight's preliminary final between the Bulldogs and Parramatta, Anderson has outlined his blueprint for putting the skids on Eels tearaway Jarryd Hayne. Anderson advised the Dogs to run Hayne ragged in the early stages, keeping all kicks in play and punishing him with walls of defence on his kick-returns so he's out of gas when the game is up for grabs in the second half FULL STORY HERE

  • Seems like every coach has a plan for Hayne. They haven't managed to find one that works yet.
  • Shutting down players like Hayne is very hard.....simply because you actually need to shut down other players to limit his potential.
  • let them try what ever they have got. they can bring an army to stop hayne he will not be stopped.
  • This coming from the coach who thought it was a good idea to use only one marker at the play the ball when he was coaching the roosters.

Plenty have tried to stop Hayne and it has not worked. Maybe they should stop focusing so much on him and worry about other players, its guys like fui, ben smith, lowrie, mannah that are going forward and creating the room for hayne to work.

Kick to him all you want, smash him all you want, he is just going to get up and go again.
  • This is the wonderful thing about Jarryd - he's almost fool proof. He's big and strong so its tough to try and bash him into submission. He defends behind the line so you can't run traffic at him all day.

But most importantly, as he said on the Footy Show last night, he really doesn't go into matches with a set idea of what he's going to do. It's very ad-lib, so if you set up defensive structures to stop him, he'll just go elsewhere on the park. And the fact that he is such a devastating runner, can set up his supports and chips means that whatever you do, he's got another trick up his sleeve that he can pull out to combat you.

That is very, very rare. You can go through any number of players we've had at the club, including the likes of Tim Smith, Dean Widders, Michael Witt, who had one big season but then as soon as opposition teams cottoned on to their signature plays and countered it, you were able to stop them.

You can't do that with Jarryd and I think Mateo is of a similar nature, in that he has all the skills and abilities as well.
    • What he has also forgot to mention is that Hayne rarely hits top gear unless he hits a gap. They can keep the ball in play all they like, he can offload to Grothe, or casually meander his way up to the defensive line like he does most of the time
  • Fark that makes no sense at all!!!

Hayne like Slater, is the most dangerous runner in broken field play!!!

In a nutshell and you dont have to be einstein IMO the only way to keep Hayne quiet is for the opposition forwards to dominate the eels pack like the Dragons did when the towled us up 37-0

The broncos forwards smashed the Dragons and look what happened!!!! This game will be no different its going to be all about dominance and field position!!!!

And the pack that dominates will be the winner!!!!
  • this man is one of the worst coaches of all time! SHUT UP!
isnt chris anderson brett kimmorleys boyfriend?
  • 'Everyone's aware of what he can do, everyone's been watching him right throughout the year and he's been in terrific form,' Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore said.

'But he's not Superman. He's certainly a very good player who needs to be watched but there's another 12 players that are going to be on the field at the same time that need watching as well.'

'I think when you talk about good players in opposition teams, it's about us as a team and making sure we're really switched on.'

'Defensively we need to be working hard for each other and if you can do that then you're going to be in a position to at least limit what he does against you.'

  • and another thing noticable in jarryds game is wen the opposition does get a nice defensive chase on their kicks, jarryd knows wen he is beaten and he surrenders in the tackles minimising energy lost
