CBA, could there be a strike?

What is everyone's thoughts on the current back and forth between RLPA and the NRL? It is slowly becoming similar to the Super League War of taking sides. Legends and broadcasters coming out in defence to the NRL and players, of course, coming out in defence for RLPA.

For me they are both bad as one another, but RLPA have more leveredge at this stage. Would V'Landys really risk them boycotting say Origin? Channel 9 will his offices stormed into either asking him to resolve it or resign. It will get done but once it is done deals with fly left right and centre. We will finally hear what Moses is doing, see if Brown goes to Wests and Taupau signs with us. It is amature at best to be fair but NRL are in a business and RLPA are looking after their health.

  • someone explain the real issue, because to me, i just cant understand what they are bickering about, it has not been explained very well. I understand the womens game is very very much underfunded for the returns they are bringing to the table. The men seem to be getting decent coin. What is the sticking point. The percentage of total revenue for men, women, boys, juniors etc. Id love to know the actual sticking points. The lack of information about that is deafening.

On another note if the players strike then there pay packet decreases as each standard NRL contract has a clause in it in regards to comps that dont go ahead effecting the income streams , as total NRL revenue drops so does the players salary's drop  by percentages. Not sure how many will take a pay haircut to strike, ill take another dig here and say surely Matto wouldnt strike under those conditions.

    • So from what Townsend said, who is the spokesperson on behalf of North Queensland, that players want well funded post player program, more funding for injury hardship fund, match fees outside the cap, funding for medical support fund and CBA for women.

So basically funding for their welfare, which is fair enough, though can give or take a few things. In terms of the NRLW, it depends on revenue, what they receive must reflect their revenue. Will there revenue in 2033 be the same as it is in 2023? No, it will be more of course, though until that point it needs to be in line with what their revenue is.

Plus i think they are dropping the NRLW Origin games from 3 to 2, which i find a bit stupid, you have to do odd numbers to avoid drawn series.

      • okay, surely the $$ they are on they can aford medical insurance. The women certainly deserve more $.

The post player program - not sure what that means etc. Match fees outside the cap - interesting but sounds a touch greedy does it not.

  • There will be no strike that effects games in the season. Possibly effect pre season but more likely a media ban (if anything).

    • I agree, the season wont be effected, V'Landys is not that dumb to jepodise the season, but you could be right in media ban and even fielding like a flegg team for trials and doing their own trials behind closed doors.

I was hearing like they could even stuff up broadcasting by walking out on the field 10-15mins late. That is considered bad as casual watchers of footy will turn off if it says 8:00 start and it is 8:10, they will turn off and watch something else.

  • My understanding is the Players have been left out of negotiations

Whilst the top end players are payed very well it's the bottom tier players who don't have as much security as well as long term support for injuries and health.

The women's game is a tough one no body really cares about it yet and it won't develop unless it's funded higher and the players get paid to be full time.

It's a messy one and the NRL has kept the players out of descion making re rules covid etc.. so I think alot of this is from built up frustrations I feel Vlandys will fall on his sword if this gets further out of hand

    • Should NRLW get more funding? Well yeah more teams that is fair enough, though i believe their coin should reflect there abouts on their revenue.

      • Agree but in terms of expanding the comp and building then they need to spend

  • Apparently parra have missed out on tapua with the on going salary cap issue. Broncos have picked him up due to already having space in the cap
