Our other bargain buy, Papalii has deservedly got a lot of praise and I hope they have upgraded him to a long term contract or do so soon.
But Cartwright seems to be under the radar. Maybe people want to make sure he can keep this up. But his capability is huge. He has a good pass bothe sides, a good offload, can jump for the high ball and is running hard and tackling reliably. The NUikore try he set up he saw an opportunity and ran to add numbers on the short side selected the correct runner and hit NUikore with a great right to left cut out pass at the line. He wont replace Brown's mongrel and forward leadership but could easily provide that extra pair of hands in the plays that Brown provides - while Brown is injured.
Main issues I see is balance. BA and the senior players need to keep making sure he does not start trying to score every play and make sure his decision making is good and he does not give away needless penalties. He could be a good influence on Matterson - encourage Matterson to up his game. I also get the feeling Cartwright feels he needs to prove himself and that is forcing him to try and show off a bit which can take us away from our game plan and may piss off his team mates. He may need to pull back a bit and select his opportunities. He has shown he is a massive X-faxtor in attack and is motivated and capable of doing the hard work in attack and defence. I think we should upgrade him now to allow him to settle down and and concentrate on the game plan rather than play for a new contract, he will be cheaper now and I do not think a 2 year contract would be unwarranted from the form and determination he has shown.

BA seems to have coached Cartwright well. BA said, do the work, make your runs, make your tackles and then the special plays will come, don’t overplay your hand, don’t try and be brilliant every set.
I think Cartwright could be something really special for us, if he just keeps going as he is, 2 great plays per game and all the hard 1% work the rest of the time is as much as we need.
He is a talent.
I'm blown away. Those two try assists were right from the top shelf. His cut out to Niukore was just sublime not to mention him running to the short side to create numbers and take charge of that play. That's high end half type play and this guy is on a base level contract. He could be absolutely enormous for us this year.
Agree; however, concerned that he works synergistically with our playmakers and not get to many cooks or negative competition. I think if he had a longer contract it may help him settle a little but hopeful not stop his motivation to do the hard work. Agree could be huge for us but needs to be managed well. BA seems to be the right coach for him as MyBob has pointed out, so all seems to be going well.
Was wanting him in the starting side but he would then need to be patient before injecting himself. Maybe just bringing on when it is the right time for him to attack is better but I would prefer to see him start and be integrated to the game plan.
I think you are saying what most think Wile but he has shown no signs of "overdoing" anything, frankly he looks an intellience level above most RL players..... then I stop and think and remind myself he partnered up with anti-vaxxer..... I suppose we can all lose the plot as we go along..... surprised how strong he seems to be as well.
Sometimes when you get intelligent people they can be bored by repetition..... my guess is that numerous coaches have tried various methods to get to the bottom of his thinking. As the Emporer in Star Wars once said "we will watch your development with much interest.....young Annakin"..... yes we have to keep him away from the "Dark Side".
