In Today's media interview Cartwright told to press that the players are making the most of the last 6 games.
He said " it's about enjoying the last 6 games because this groups not going to be together again, a lot of us".
So we have to expect maybe 5 or 6, maybe more won't be here in 2025 as " Cartwright said a lot of us"
Can anyone work out who in the squad are off contract and who he meant be "a lot" of players going.
I know Sivo and Matto have been tapped on the shoulder
Boods is going

Morgan Harper. Definitely

Matterson Probably
Weirimu probably
He could be referring to the current 17 too. RCG, Lane, Asi off-contract,
You cannot have everyone gone at once but at least 3 big names should move on to at least make moves for younger players. Ryles has the luxary of a warchest in 2026 and has a head start this year to get an understanding of who he wants. Ryles also will be given the full 4 years, so he has time. Plus, since he worked with pathways in Melbourne, he would be inclined to bring along juniors too at a good rate, but not throwing them in for the sake of it either. More so, i mean if a Richie Penisini for example is playing well in pre-season and Wing spot is open, he would just put him in. BA might have done the same or persevered with likes of Russell for example. BA would have been cautious on same choices due to his job security, Ryles could and reckon will come out guns blazing on his choices from pre-season.
Yep, you'd have to say by Cartwright's presser that a few big names will be playing their last games here
It sort of has that feeling of workers who had the sweet life with one boss. Then when new management is waiting to come in, workers begin the fret and get anxious as they actually have to go above and beyond to keep their positions. Seems this squad are on edge and rightfully so they should be.
Ive heard rumblings of at least six going/leaving...
Lots of talk about taps on the shoulders but reality will be very different seeing as they're all on inflated contracts and player options.
1. Would be interesting to see how Ryles can even get rid of them when no team will want them... unless we're paying for half their contracts.
2. Where willl the replacements come from when there clearly are no decent juniors and no one on the market.
If Ryles gets rid of RCG, then he proves himself as a dope before he has even started.
RCG might want to go anyway. He mentioned his interest in going to SL, it will prolong his career by another 2-3 years and would earn roughly the same amount of money yearly, staying in NRL he would drop money yearly. It might be a case of he says he wouldn't mind leaving and we say that is fine and free some cash.
I do not want him to go either, but if you are freeing some cash for 2025, that is a quick way of getting some as he would be willing to go to SL.
Exactly LB. If RCG wants to leave and asks for a release, wouldnt it be better for all parties incolved to let him go?
If RCG wants to leave that is a different thing. I doubt he does, he is just protecting concerns because of all of the media speculation. That said, the squad know they are on notice. No more riding the fairy train.
