Carl Webb ready to weigh in at Parramatta Eels

OPULAR Parramatta recruit Carl Webb last night vowed to shed up to 8kg before Christmas in a bid to return to his devastating best for his new club.

Webb weighed in at 116kg on Monday and quickly mapped out a plan with top Eels trainer Hayden Knowles to get lean and boost his playing minutes.

The tough back-rower spent an average of 34 minutes on the park for the Cowboys last season, and was sighted for only 46 minutes in 2009.

Long-suffering Parramatta fans have made endless inquiries to Eels officials about Webb in the past week alone, and the man himself is desperate to deliver.

"Forget everyone else, I've got plenty of expectations on myself and still don't feel I've played the best footy I can," he said.

  • I reckon Carl Webb will be the big surprise for Parra in 2011 - remember, you can't coach talent but you can FIX attitude and fitness by surrounding malcontents with strong leadership. Webb appears motivated for the first time in a couple of years & it appears that getting let go by Nth Qld may have been a wake up call

If Webb and Fui can tag-team for 80 mins - then Parra will have some genuine go forward and a terrific platform to work with

Webb, like him or loathe him, has a TONNE of football talent - let's hope he can turn his words into action

If he does.....here's my prediction - then WEBB will be a HUGE fan favorite by the end of 2011
  • I RECKON HE IS A GOOD SIGNING,PLENTY OF SKILL AND SIZE AND A BIT OF MONGREL TO,HE JUST NEEDS THE RIGHT ATTITUDE(PARRAMATTATUDE)CAYLESS DIDNT SPEND MUCH TIME ON THE FIELD EITHER ,LOOK HOW GOOD NATE MYLES WENT THIS YEAR,NEW COACH,NEW ATTITUDE
  • This only further proves the point that Webb has firstly, lost weight, and is also looking at losing more in order to provide maximum impact.
The guy is determined to have a good season, and it's fantastic to see!
  • I agree with you mate, he definitely has the dedication there to prove himself and with that attitude and having the body and fitness to match his abilities, he will be a wrecking ball!
  • I guess we have to wait and see ...the thing that worries me most is if he picks up an injury and is out for say 4 weeks - his weight will balloon again and he'll be back to square one. (Fingers X'd)
  • It sounds as if both Carl and the trainers wouldn't let this happen should he be injured.
  • I wish we hadn't of signed him but now that he's here I'll back in 100%.

    Hope he fires up.

I don't have an opinion on who should start etc... but Fui and Webb must play the 10 minutes before hlaftime and Fui needs to be there at the back end as well.

I am concerned about a lateral defence in the forwards..... Hindy is getting slower, Poore has a tendacy to get caught out as does Horo and Webb.
  • To be honest, I think the signing of Webb is a good one. Provided he gets into shape, his addition provides the perfect balance to our forward pack. We can start the game with an impact prop and a 'worker' prop in Fui and Poore, then replace them respectively with Webb (impact) and Mannah (worker).

Combine that awesome prop rotation with the two tireless workers in Ben Smith and Hindy in the second row, and add Shackleton's impact from lock and I think you have one of the most efficient and dangerous forward packs in the NRL.
  • WEBB at about 110kgs or less will be an absolute weapon running in tandem with FUI. He has quite good leg speed like FUI and that is what the trainers are working on with him. He is doing extras ( boxing ) and considering hsi background in that area he will sharpen up quickly.

After speaking to my mate who is in the Parra camp - he said the attitude is so different to last year, they are quiet embarrassed by their 2010 showings and he said everything is so positive and focussed. He just said the vibe is sensational.
  • ill be happy if hes not injured round 1
