Captains - Mannah vs Thurston

More and more we are hearing comments made about our captains leadership capabilities. I tend to agree. For what it's worth I feel Mannah has been playing some good solid footy over the last few weeks. But that doesn't make him a good captain. A good leader needs a balance of calmness, passion, presence, mongrel and a must win at all costs attitude! Thurston last week was the perfect example of this. His team was down by 24 points and at no point did he ever drop his head. After Parra's last try he was talking and revving up the team in a controlled manner. He never gave up and believed they could win.Mannah is calm but that's it. I've never seen him rev up our players.I've never seen him get angry. When he approached the refs he does so with a defeatist attitude.I think he is too nice and lacks some of that mongrel.Big question - If not Masnah then who?!!!

  • Semi. Lol. Would love to hear the conversation.
    • Ha, ha.
Bring back Fui as captain. Now that would be a conversation worth hearing.
  • Peats.
  • The captain isn't necessarily the leader of the team. He might also be the onfield leader, like Thurston, but he doesn't have to be.
We know Watmough and Peats are leaders, plus Foran and Scott are both leaders who arrive next year. Peats said in an interview this week that Corey Norman was one of the team leaders, proving that leaders and captains aren't the same thing.
  • Who steps into the role when Mannah is off the field...hard to tell most of the time though?

    • Peats probably. Norman ran the team out last week in the second half.

  • Peats for sure. He has mongrel seems like a no nonsense sort of bloke. I reckon he would be the bloke to rev up the team when things don't go our way.
  • Thing is, it doesn't exactly stand out when we need voicing behind the line either.

    • Exactly macybrown. It's not the captain's job to lead the team on the field. His job is to talk to the refs, sponsors and media.

"Agreed. The pushed passes did my head in.
