There is talk in the Rugby League world that some clubs in the English Super League will begin allowing their club Captains to be one of the selectors. I'm pretty sure this is only a rumour and nothing will come of it but I would like to hear your views on it. I for one don't want to see it occur. The coach should be the only selector. The captain is still a player and shouldn't be a selector because I see it as a conflict of interest. As has been seen in the Australian Cricket team, the captain being a selector can be detrimental to a team's performance. He continued selecting Philip Hughes, who wasn't scoring, instead of Simon Katich who has been continually scoring well in Shield Cricket because of an argument they had after the 2009 SCG Test Match. Players are players and they should only be doing what they're employed to do, which is playing not selecting.

Agree with you here, massive conflict of interest.
I knew Ponting wasn't a selector, Clarke's the first captain to be one, the Australian Cricket Team was just an example. I think it's good for a captain to help in identifying talent among the players in the U20's but I think that's where their responsibility to selection ends.
