Captain Contagious

Moses is a good player and a bad captain...and that's OK....but we need to do something about it. Fuck knows who we could give it to at this point but it seems obvious to me that Moses ain't the guy for it.  His Captaincy changes him, his manner and attitude suffer. Watching him, well, I wouldn't follow him into a bakery

I wonder aloud, here amongst the "sack EvErYOnE" wailing wether part of our recruitment clusterfuck comes down to folks being less than keen to play with/under Moses?

  • I've made numerous comments over the years in regards to Mitch and his leadership which align with your thoughts Randy. A leader needs to be relatively level, no matter the situation. No yahooing and hollering when things are going well. No swearing and berating your teammates when things could be better. Mitch is too emotional for mine, and this is evidenced in his his dealings with the referees (same went for Gutho). I think hopgood has a better demeanour for the role.

    • Hopgood...meh, but Moses would spit it if we tried to take it off him. It is his team I suppose but I just wonder how many prospective recruits wanna buy into Mitch's thing

    • Agree completely on the mentality of Mitch. He's grown into the role as a half and is great at steering the side around the park, but he isn't a good captain. Neither was Gutho. And Junior is too quiet.

Hopgood definitely showed the right mentality but unfortunately his output on the park means I don't even know if we can consider him a definite starter anymore.

I don't think we have a natural captain in the squad.

      • I don't think we have a natural captain either. but we could really do with one right now

  • He was horrible to watch live today. Totally uninspiring. His game management was non existent. Rushed and often selfish, hail mary plays, undisciplined ends to sets, impatient. Along with his horrendously negative body language throughout the entire match. If perhaps he is not feeling it and wants out, just get it over with ASAP.

    • Dunno about you Old-school. but "Frantic" & "Mouthy" are not  leadership traits that fill me with confidence

    • Fair dinkum, the life of a true Parra supporter, he had a shocker today so let's get rid of him, or if he wants to leave, do it now. Moses should not have played today, same as JAC. They go out because they know we are very short on troops and people like you bag them. Next you will want Ryles gone and replace him with Flanagan, who a lot on here wanted as coach, and he can bring Kyle with him to replace Moses.

      • There are some that say his attitude is poor. He tried today, as he has all year. Doesn't mean he is playing well. But to say he is not trying is poor.

  • Fair post. Is being captain hindering him? It could be. You could argue even when Gutho was here as captain that Moses didn't need the 'C' to his name as he would lead on the field anyway. But now he has that all on him with no Gutho there adding his pieces. Paulo was a captain, but more that lead by example instead of that leader type voice.

Although i was not overly keen on the Barnett signing, unless we got younger in the pack, i will admit as a forwards leader he would have been perfect. KK i am not sure what type of leader he would have been but he could have been a great voice to have.

I found it funny though when people compared Moses' complaining to the ref like Cameron Smith. Difference is Smith never yelled at, rushed over to or got in the refs face. He was able to talk to the refs in a respectful manner and it went a long way. Moses is, as Adam mentioned, too emotional. He gets frazzled when things do not go his way and it rubs off on the team. Instead a calmer head to talk to the ref would go down a lot better. Refs are human, if a player is being a pain in the arse and disrespectful they can take that the wrong way and it could effect a few calls.

Moses definately had a muzzle on today and sometimes it is for the best. Would he crack it if taken off him? Who knows but instead a co-captain approach could be better. If we did manage to get Keaon he could have been it.
