Can We Expect Consistency?

In light of stories circulating in rugby league circles about a couple of clubs breaching the salary cap, and following on from the news about Ben Barba testing positive for cocaine, can we expect the NRL to follow the precedents of 2016?*Will the high profile Barba receive a significant time on the sidelines?* Will any club breaching the cap undergo a forensic examination of their administration and its communications and records?* If found to be in breach of the cap during a season, will any club be docked points up to the date that they are deemed to be cap compliant?Don't get me wrong. I consider that the Eels have now benefitted from the actions and decisions of the NRL. Our club is heading in the right direction and reforms that may have dragged on for many years are now being undertaken. We have people in control of our club that may never have come into the fold without the intervention of the NRL kick starting the process. The fate that befell our team only served to strengthen the resilience of the playing group.Yes, many positives for the Eels. Now, it is imperative for consistency in consequences to be delivered to all clubs.

  • I doubt other clubs would still keep the emails and recordings
  • Surely the precedent is now set. The actions of the NRL this year were clear (we probably didn't agree with them at the time) so it is easy to see the same being doled out to other clubs. If this doesn't happen, the the NRL certainly had an agenda towards Parramatta.
  • Barba - yes should get 12 weeks as a repeat offender, 8 weeks minimum if the nrl is weak.
Cap Cheats - No, the nrl will sweep it under the carpet and to be fair they tried to sweep our mess under the carpet too, but their hand was forced by the Parra infighting and media onslaught.
  • Really hope so sixties. Think most fans are sick to death of the inconsistency within the game on most fronts. The focus of fans should be what happens on the field but increasingly in this sport, all the inconsistency off it, is ruining the fun and enjoyment of the game.
Think all in all, with our well known in fighting (and NRL easy access to inside knowledge) etc, we were a soft target to make an example of. The NRL seemingly allow more successful clubs continue to get away with suspect spending, signings and behavioural issues apparently unwilling to scratch the surface too deeply.

A strong administration must be consistent.

Let's see what happens regards Barba, that's a start.. If reports are true and Barba tested positive and considering Normz was stood down for what was left of the comp last year for possession, think most would be expecting a far more lengthy lay off for Barba.
  • I guess it depends how the media treat it, they were relentless with parra and forced the nrls hand, will they do the same now, I doubt and it will all quietly disappear.
Re barba they will take the line that we have to be careful and can't go hard because it is about bens health and we know how fragile he is bullshit bullshit bullshit.
  • I cant see it happening Sixties.....it depends on what outcomes Toddy wants, if it were the Dragons under cap pressure and even breaching the salary cap then maybe Toddy would ride in on his white horse & clean the place up...especially if he needs a buyer for the joint!!!

  • Which other clubs are reportededly breaching the cap ? Isn't this just an ongoing rumour ?
  • Consistency is one thing the NRL is not.
  • We hope Sixties. I think it depends though. Brisbane and James Roberts is case in point....punted form a few clubs, and still alcohol issues, but was whisked off to Thailand....
