  • Start with "C" Cayless & Poore......let them deal with the first "smash up" period.....then bring on the FUI to do our smashing ....
    • Don't lie Billblogs....If you loved him you wouldn't be spouting shit like that. You sure do know how to stir the pot(are you sure you are an eels fan?). After the years of blood, sweat & tears cayless has put into parra, you just say 'The game has moved beyond Nathan Cayless IMO' & 'Should not be captain as he is not young'......How dare you!!! Shame billblogs Shame.
  • who cares , their is always vice captains and that - i mean what do you think happens when he goes off the field there is always someone on there with leadership qualities in the vice captain
    • i think you may have missed the point of this blog will. i wasn't referring to an 80 min game. i was referring to looking in the Telegraph each week at the team lists on a friday and seeing the (c) next to someone wearing jersey #16.
    • Yeah probably right to a point but the club owes him IMO. I'ts gonna be his last hurrah this year and he will go out a premiership winning captain who will do us proud. I hope 'our' eels don't end up being a club that throws away old loyal players for the sake of money hungry young talent in the future.
  • Billblogs PULL you head in.

Cayless "IS" our Captain, Said and done. End of story. How the hell, sorry who the hell are you to say crap like that? Peanut! In the last 10 years what do you know he has done for this club apart from the 80 mins you "might" see each week? Answer? sweet f all.

Answer me this billblogs or is it bulldogs??? how many other cluds would have "supporters" say hmmmm (for the kids) stuff like this? Grrrr answer = NIL. Ask any Broncos fan about there number 6 and what would they say?

So much more to the 80min we see each week my friend Peanut, and untill you see the big picture i think you should go support the dogs.. or any other club as you are not a true PARRA FAN.

Don't get upset.....ha that is what this site is for.....................................sharing opinions
    • Boys, first up let's keep the criticism on topic. Hammer the argument, not the fan fellas. Snapper, stevEELla82, at the end of the day, Billblogs will still be shoulder-to-shoulder in the stands cheering the boys on with the rest of us.

On topic, Let me first agree that Cayless has been one of the most lead-by-example, consistent and respected captains in the comp. And yes, his captaining is more than just what he does on the field - look at how the boys lifted when they heard he was fit for the GF last year.... he's an inspiration.

HOWEVER, if we want to win the comp, we need our best team on the field each and every week. We can't keep ANYONE in the side if they underperform just because "the club owes them". That will LOSE us the comp. IMO Cayless has done plenty to start the season as (c) and in the run-on squad, but he should be subject to the same performance regime as the rest of the team - aim up or shift out. We have too much talent and potential in our squad to play a "sentimental" team....
      • Is the question in this blog whether the Eels will be the first team to start their captain off the bench or whether Cayless should have his captaincy stripped of him?

Personally I believe that the captain should be in the starting line-up and of course they need to be performing well enough to be there but if they were starting on the bench it wouldn't be the end of the world, would it? Especially if they have a vice-captain who can step into the role during these times, who should be the next in line when Cayless retires...

I think it would be very disrupting and possibly damaging to team morale if Cayless was to be removed as captain at this late stage of his career, as even though loyalty is in short supply at this time, I am sure it is appreciated by all of the players.
      • Yes, and Ando has said exactly that. He will rise to the challenge, believe me.
  • Id like to see him play like a ball playing prop, that being said he has to start either moi moi or poore to come of bench, id be disguised if he was on the bench after everything he has done for this club.
