Can the Darwin Game be an Excuse?

There have been a few comments suggesting that the 'poor performance' (not the result) of last night's Eels game against the Bulldogs was highly due to the Darwin game last week. Yet, if that's the case why didn't it affect Gutherson, Mitch Moses, Mahoney, Niukore, RCG, Nathan Brown,  Opiciac, Sivo, Ferguson? As they all seemed to play reasonably well. I tend to think that last nights player performance had more to do with it than fatigue from the Darwin trip. Dylan Brown has been diabolical most of this year, Matterson has been out for 5 weeks and his return in my opinion upset the status quo, Lane starting from the bench, wasn't the greatest idea either in my opinion. The late change of the team also didn't help in my opinion. If the Eels had played a better quality team last night the result may have been different.

  • Sorry Monto but I have to disagree.

We scored 32 (could have been 36 if Moses hadn't missed 2 conversions) and only conceded 10 points for a winning margin of 22.

Our recent history against the dogs shows that our games against them are usually tight encounters with only a few points in it.

We controlled the game from start to finish and were never in any serious trouble or staring down a loss.

Yes there were a couple of players who had less than stellar nights but it's a far stretch to call last night's game a "poor performance".

    • The Bulldogs of previous years isn't the same as this years. Barrett has done absolutely nothing for the Dogs this year. The Eels should have put 30 on them at half time.

      • The Sharks should have beaten them last week but didn't.

We don't need to score off of every play so I don't see why we should have put 30 on them in the 1st half.

Realistically the dogs roster this year is arguably better than it was last year and we only just scraped by them for the win.

This year it was a strong victory against a stronger dogs team.

        • BEM, the Sharks are just as bad as the Bulldogs especially since Morris got the boot. Basically the Sharks vs Bulldogs are 2 poor teams playing each other. The Eels scoreline was really no reflection of the game. It was probably due to next weeks game against the Roosters in their minds but a number of players last night were certainly below standard.

    • I'm not winging Slugg just being observant. Performance has nothing to do with the scoreline. That was the Bulldogs they played last night who at most times have been diabolical all year. If that was the Roosters, Penrith, Souths last night the scoreline would have been different.

      • Mont's you were "observant"  and called for DB to be dropped and in another blog you said of DB, I cant really say as I haven't watched him much"  you say here he has been diabolical..... maybe diabolical has more application closer to home Monts.

PS Very rare I see Slugg angry..... my guess is there is "no soup for you today"

        • Pops, why are you always highlighting some past comment in the hope of attempting to belittle a blog, or comment or person? Not everyone sees things exactly the same as everyone else as if we did we would all be Robots. I don't recall saying ' I don't watch Dylan Brown that much' maybe I did maybe I didn't. However, that's not the point! The fact is he's playing like 'old man emu' instead of the 'road runner' as most are claiming he is. On another note Pops, I'm sure if I dig deep enough into past blogs and comments I'm sure I could locate comments you've made which appear contradictory but I'm not that type of person and I have better things to do with my time. I've seen Slugg claiming he has the shits a few times and not only with my comments. Everyone gets the shits sometimes.

          • Mont's I am an optimist and a Unicorn and it pisses me off that the same old negative nellies come out and find a reason to whinge..... you have done it and subjectively Mont's you love to get on a bandwagon with the nellies. A simple comment after last nights game could have been D Brown was not that effective tonight or had a quiet one, hope he gets better!

But NO we have to turn him upside down and analyse every tiny, diminutive, little thing..... by the way that comment won Rex Mossop the tutology of the year award when describing the St George half back Mark Shulman..... see how we can bring knowledge to the unwashed with some understanding of the game and history Monts.

With regard to high lighting comments to belittle a comment or person maybe I am little more acerbic than most and this makes me unpopular......learn to live with it Monts.....you used to be a teacher..... just imagine yourself back in the playground with its various miscreants.

Footnote to Acerbic....used to describe something that is spoken or written in a way that is direct, witty, and cruel: ...... so maybe the wit is something I have to do better at!

            • Poppa, in case you don't speak retard, i offer To translate Munto
