Just before half time Munster did a hip drop tackle on a panthers player that didn't even get penalised.

Compare it to the tackle by Junior Paulo last year which controversially got him a 2 week suspension.

If past form is anything to go by Munster should be out for quite some time. If however, as I suspect, the Storm is a protected species then nothing will be done.

I just hope Paul Kent tees off again on NRL360 this week at the storm for it.

  • I hate the grubby tactics of the Storm but it was a Penrith play that concerned me last night.

A Melbourne player was tackled by 2 Panthers, his momentum was stopped, the ball wrapped up but the third man came in with force and put a shot on exposed ribs.

What the third man can/cannot do needs to be addressed. It could be used in big games to take out playmakers

    • I agree with what you say. It is a dog act.

Not to let off Storm to lightly I also think a tackle? from Munster on a Penrith player was an out and out judo wrestling move. i.e using the old wrestling parlances it was a "step over toe hold" made famous by WWE wrestler Chief Billy something Wolfe, (he would be a hundred years old by now) but it was blatant and how he didn't do some real damage is astounding.

Intent and timing of these moves needs to be questioned by the judiciary and unless it had some pertinence in the situation of the game, it needs to be acted upon.  Both the move you explained and the one I have identified had no course in the actual game.

Of course to emphasise my lack of bias, I do not think any of the Parra players is capable of executing a step over toe hold. Our defensive capabilities are much more limited......only answer is to sack KIdwell.....the reason is that he obviously knows nothing about his job, as we also know nothing about him..... I love a scapegoat in the morning!

Can't believe the shit this bloke takes, without any actual proof of his highly publicised incompetence. We don't even know if he is the defensive coach do we?

      • The only reason I mentioned the Penrith hit is because I think Munster will get a little holiday while Lenui will be free to bust more ribs next week

        • Munster wasn't charged.

    • Al Shaw they dished out waht they got and changed the game.

    • I had no problem with that TBH. If there is still momentum in tackle, which there was, then the tackled player is fair game. I get they want to protect the players legs, and that's fine, but the rib cage, no dramas from me.

I note with interest that Cooper Cronk had no issues with it, even though it was a Storm player who copped the whack.

I mean, it's fucking Rugby League, you're supposed to hurt the opposition.

      • Hurt and injure are two different things.

Of course Cronk has no  issue with it, he comes out of the grubby system that started all this rubbish

        • Yeah, and I don't think it was intended to injure, but it was intended to hurt.

In any event, I see nothing wrong with it.

    • How do you ban wrestling training, and whose gonna monitor it ?

The clubs will just change the name of the training.

        • The real question has to be why the Storm introduced wrestling to the game in the first place ?

Why are there so many crushers ? Well, because so many players are backing into tackles.

So, why are they doing that ? Because it gives the tackled player more stability in the tackle.

Why is that important ? Because of the importance of getting the tackled player on his back.

So why is that important ? Because the rules of the game are so in favour of the attacking team that the only place the defence can compete is the ruck.

          Hence the wrestle.

The league does not address the underlying core issue, they are constantly chasing their tails regarding wrestling tactics.

"Exactly. We are losing a winger,  not the best prop in the game or a fullback, other clubs are going to be hit harder than us by this r360.
Let's be realistic about this, the only thing lomax gave us last season was good yardage and a high work…"
