Calm Down Everyone....

Everyone needs to just calm the F*%$ down. Stop talking up our premiership hopes its not even semi finals time yet... look what happened to the dragons the past three weeks since talking them selves up. We have not won anything yet. The more you talk about it the more you build it up and if we dont get there the harder you fall lol

  • WORD!!! one game at a time.
  • Spot on Eels on wheels. According to some people on this forum - our fearless leader included - we're already basking in the afterglow of a GF victory. Karma is a bitch and if we continue to be so arrogant, it will kick us in the arse! Hell, we're not absolutely guaranteed of playing finals football yet!

If history has taught us anything, its not to count the proverbial chickens! When Parra made it first grand final in 1976, the club took the extraordinary step of giving the players a street parade prior to the game while Manly took the low key approach. We lost!

Forgive the secondary hearsay, and I'm not suggesting the following to be undisputed fact, but a tradesman who attended my house in 2002 turned out to be an ex Parra player. He indicated to me that on the eve of the 2001 GF, he spoke to Nathan Cayless who basically said victory was "in the bag" and "all they needed to do was show up" to taste victory. Painfully, we all know what happened.

St George have been pilloried by the media and opposition fans for being cocky - and we saw a perfect example of it with the Darius Boyd interview. Since then, they've played like a bag of shit!

I say we enjoy the roll we're on. Enjoy the football the team is producing and share in the excitement which the players. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. I am suspersticious and I genuinely believe that if we keep our heads down and cut out the chest beating now, we'll be more than justified in doing so on the first Sunday in October!
    • Good to see people agree with me Bourbon Man. I feel if i talk them up they will only lose, im paranoid about this as its happened in the past lol. ALSO another thing that shits me to tears is all these parra supporters who have come out of the woodwork only when we are winning... past 3 weeks everyone 2nd person walking in the street has a parra shirt on. where were they 7 weeks ago? A few Penrith supporters were carrying on like dickheads friday night saying where was i when they were losing? i said i been here all along buddy and i bet there is only 2,000 at penirth park next week. lol
    • Yeah and i Honestly thought that in 2001.
  • I agree
  • I'm just stoked that we have made the finals. Unless of course the points differential between us "losing" to the Dragons (cough cough spit spit) and the Panthers winning is greater than 80, we are there! I can't see that happening, can anyone? We should at least be able to sit easy there, yeah?

For the sake of the argument, if we make it to the GF and win it, we will have to beat the current winning record to win the GF. It was 12 straight set by Souths in the early days when they went the season undefeated! i'd love it to happen but it is one big ask!

One thing we can be sure of this year is our coach. He will remember the 02 GF coaching the Warriors and his time at St Helens. If our mob make the GF, he will not let a "we will win for sure" attitude creep in. Either will Hindy, Burt or Cayless. None of those blokes are stupid, and will have learnt from past mistakes. If we make it, the best team on the day will win. Same goes with the rest of this year.

I actually read Phil's GF blog as a hypothetical thus i treated it that way. Most probably have, but there is no harm in dreaming.
  • I agree Eels on wheels lets just focus on this Friday nights game against the Dragons we have to get past this game first before worrying about the semi finals. We really don't know what frame of mind the Dragons are going to come out with after losing 3 weeks in row, getting smashed by the Rabbitohs and now dropping down to 2nd on the ladder. It would be nice to say we are going to beat the Dragons for sure but i am really nervous about this game but i am sure Daniel Anderson will have the boys focused and level headed for this game.
  • I disagree with this whole blog, sorry. I am just enjoying the ride. I am still sceptical that we can take out the whole thing, but given my expectations at the start of the year, and what they were half way through, Parra have far exceeded them. As far as I am concerned, I will talk them up until they lose!
    • Everyone is enjoying the ride and no one wants it to end bud, but whats the point putting HUGE expectations on the team, why not just take it one step at a time instead of talking them up so much? 2 main reasons not to talk them up are 1. you will be even more dissapointed if they fail which i hope they dont and 2. you look like a dickhead then everyone puts shit on you for talking them up and not making it lol. I'm positive we will get far this year but im not going to count the chickens till they hatch.
    • People, we're fans! The team is going well, for crying out loud just enjoy it. If people want to start thinking about being in the grand final, then awesome.

Now, if the team was thinking ahead to the grand final then I'd be worried - but I see no problem in getting excited as a group of supporters that we could win this thing.

I thought we could win it five weeks ago, so I'm hardly going to go all conservative now.
