Can someone take some responsibility

First off let me say that I'm sure that some of the stories appearing in the media are there due to either the journalist or more likely their source having an agenda.

However, one thing that has infuriated me during this whole thing is the currents board refusal to accept any of the blame it is always "prior administrations" who caused the salary cao issues.

Then there are plenty of fans who refuse to accept that the club did anything wrong and it is always a conspiracy from the NRL to ryin Parra's season, ensure the Roosters don't finish last, Greenberg hating The Eels or it's the old "well everyone else is doing it"

Then there is the blind faith some have in tje current board where every press release from Sharp is considered gospel while every negative piece is 100% lies in most cases the truth is probably somewhere in the middle of the slated reports to either sell stories or protect mates from sections of the media and the "we are great and everyone hates us" mentality from the Sharp press releases.

As for the NRL I'm sure that they would have loved to sweep this under the carpet as much as possible like they did with the Broncos issues last year however a combination of spiteful former board members and no one currently at the club willing to be the fall guy has forced this investigation to continue.

If the club had the factiona under control and someone (lets say DA) was willing to play tje Andrew Gee role this would have ended months ago with a big fine and public wrap over the knuckles from the NRL.

While there are quite a few people here who can at least see the truth I am getting sick of reading so many comments from people who seem to be wearing tin foil hats

And yes I'm sure I'll get smashed by people for this post but I've got better things to do in my life than worry about the opinion of fools, I do however welcome the views of people who can see the bigger picture even if those views disagree with mine.

  • Good blog Dave, theres no black and white in this, its all grey, theres a few people about to get huge wake up calls in the next few weeks, the same people claiming the current boards done no wrong will be calling the loudest for them to stand down when they find out theyve been fooled.

LOL Its gonna get real nasty in the coming days and weeks, what weve seen so far is just the entree.

  • I totally agree with most of your comments here. But I have a question. Has anything actually been released by the NRL to help ease some of the doubts and media speculation? I keep hearing of the smoking gun and everything is going to get worse before getting better. That we are going to lose 10 points, 6 points, 4 points I can't keep up, I need facts something from the NRL ??

Its very frustrating not knowing what the real facts are!

I follow the EELS because of the team that turns up every week and plays good footy. I could not tell you who the board members are of any of our rivals, but if I asked someone who followed another NRL club who is running the EELS they would know! The board should be silent and never be heard in the media as that is the job of the CEO. I don't want to hear anything more from this current board until this so called investigation is finished! I have no doubt Greenberg will be looking to earn some stripes as the new boss, so i'm not confident with the possible outcomes??

Too much self interest its sickening!! I have never been a fan of private ownership, but I think with the right people this is now the way to go for the EELS into the future.

    • Rebel i think more things are coming to light every day with the NRL, they only interviewed Scott Seaweed the other day, now they will have to give us due corse of reply and investigate, the investigations getting bigger and bigger, Seward has dropped a few huge bombshells the other day for sure, the longer this goes the worse it looks for us.

Theres not much the NRL can do or say yet, and what ever they say or do will create more speculation.

  • Dave, in agreement with you, I'll add the obvious. All those fans claiming all the media stories are just a bias against the poor Eels must have short memories. The Eels Board is saying they are implementing "massive reforms". Why? Because the Board is admitting to poor management. So these media stories, though they certainly reflect the journalistic ethos of if there is blood in the water you circle, also reflect actual and admitted poor management. Of course, why might our own fans forget this detail? Well, maybe in part due to our own Board having spent a good deal of time denying any problem, then trying to avoid too much reform, before finally admitting massive reform was needed.

Overall, I support the Eels footy team. Not any particular, past, present or future, Board. So I am neutral on any Board. And neutral enough to admit our Board is guilty of poor management. Just get me a Board in place that is competent enough that I never hear of them, and I'll be happy, as then all chat can be about the footy!
  • Wow ok. Thanks.

I'm really not looking forward to what's coming our way!!

  • I reckon people such as myself who are saying "let's just wait and see what the NRL say before crucifying anyone" aren't necessarily blindly supporting the current board, denying there aren't issues, or shoving their heads in the sand.

I firmly believe it's best to wait for an outcome before making judgement and assumptions.

Just like a trial - responsibility has to be taken once a verdict is reached/proven - not before.

Just like in business - you get all the FACTS and assess them before making a judgement/call.

The right to hammer trolls that are deliberately setting out to destabalise the club for thier own purposes, such as Roger "i'm a dickwad" smith is of course reserved :))

    • Unfortunately due to continual leaking and a media that knows Parra-drama makes clicks / sells papers we've already had a trial-by-media. We have articles telling the NRL to "throw the book at Parra" when it's not even publicly known what the book is being thrown for.

A big part of "the Parra problem" is that rumour and innuendo seem to sell better than boring old facts. Add in a few people out for revenge into the mix and you've got the perfect storm that we're currently in where every day that passes there are a new bevvy of Parra articles based solely on further extrapolating from the rumour and innuendo that was published the day before.

At this point I have zero idea what's even remotely fact vs fiction. And like many "drama-sells" stories, the public opinion ends up decided well before the facts are even presented.

    • There is a difference between waiting for the facts and what I'm talking about.

Do we have ALL the facts, No

But there is a lot of facts already released that at best show the current board was somewhere between naive and incompetent when dealing with the salary cap issues, and by the end it may be shown to have been fully corrupt.

There are people who support the current board but can see at very least there are issues with it. Those people are not the target here.

The issue I have is with the board always blaming someone else be it poor governance inherited from prior boards or it's all lies and a media smear campaign and with the people who instantly believe everything written in a Steve Sharp press release.

and then there is the tin foil hat patrol who seem to think this is all some grand plan by the NRL led by former Bulldog heavyweight Todd Greenberg to ruin Parra's season and that Paul Kent is getting off on the story because the club didn't give him more first grade games.

or who think that the club did nothing wrong because everyone is cheating.

Just because you're taking steroids doesn't mean you are going to always win and it doesn't always mean that the guy who beat you is also taking steroids.

  • I agreed with enough of this, that I sub-edited your heading

  • I'm a bit all of those and definitely see that we've made errors and bungling due to poor execution as do most.

So far the Wati TPA is the prob re arms length that we do know of. You say a lot of facts are known as definite?
I have been trying to actually find out what is real and what's not. Please help and explain exactly where we may come undone .

But, it has to also remembered that we did self report our problems in respect of the salary cap mess we were facing in 2014 for which we received the huge fine etc. wasn't just us saying it was a result of previous admins Dave...

"CEO Dave Smith said on Thursday the breaches were significant and were the product of inadequate oversight and governance at the club, largely by previous administrations."
