BURLEIGH sharpshooter Jamal Fogarty has all but sealed the highest points haul in a Queensland Cup season in four years.

Fogarty’s nine goals against Ipswich on Saturday took his 2016 tally to 206 points, made up of eight tries and 87 goals.

That leaves him 36 points clear of nearest rival Redcliffe’s Darren Nicholls and only two points shy of the highest regular season tally in recent years.

However, the all-time record is still some way off – Dolphins veteran Liam Georgetown amassed 318 points in 2012 including 300 before finals.

Fogarty’s hot form with the boot has seen him kick 21 consecutive goals and convert 42 of 44 attempts during his team’s seven-match winning streak.

“I just sort of found my technique and stuck to it and everything has been going good so far,” the halfback said.

“Hopefully I can keep the good form going deep into the finals.”

Burleigh chief executive Damian Driscoll said the value of scoring in sixes rather than fours could not be understated.

“I think the best one I’ve seen him get was against Tweed Heads from the sideline into the wind, it came from the left of the upright then faded back in,” he said.

Bears fullback Kurtis Rowe is a contender for leading try scorer, only one behind the 16 tries registered by Townsville’s Jonathon Reuben.

  • How many blogs can one guy get?

    • An awful lot. Why can't people on here address their ADD and look at what has been blogged already.  Drives me nuts!  Team lists, Hayne, Foghorn Leghorn, it is endless!

  • Not since we signed tom humble from Queensland cup has a player with no experience got so much attention.
    • Lol.  He appears to be a lot more versatile by being able to play fullback or half and being a very strong goal kicker.  Only time will tell.  If the club don't announce his signature in the next week or two you can assume he will be playing for Wenty and is second tier.

  • Humble had speed...and thats it. This kid has all the skills. I especially like his short kicking game.
Dont forget there were a few unknowns that started in the Q Cup that no one wanted. ..the names Cronk, Slater, Smith, inglis come to mind.
    BA knows what hes doing.
  • This guy will look good in an eels jersey
