Build not Buy!!!

Parra have often been on the receiving end of negative publicity in regards to their recruiting and have more than once been fingered as a team trying to "buy a premiership" regardless if they are trying to acquire a certain star player in a key position, or just go all out on a mass spending spree (which is almost impossible now considering salary cap restraints)

I dont know if its just me but now i shudder when i hear the club is off chasing "so and so" throwing big bucks around and so forth its like if tomorrow i hear we signed Greg Inglis I think I would be sick and the only reason I think i would be is because we have bought so many good players over the last 20 or so years like who could ever forget the "Big 4" in Pay, Dymock, McCraken, and Smith and we still have not managed to claim a single premiership!!

I would have a fair bet that most teams that have won the comp over the last 10 -20 years have held that same core side for at leat 3-5 years previously before winning they didnt just dont go out and buy a certain player and bang instant success!!

I like most had a gut feeling that after 09 success that 2010 was it, had to be ours we had a team made up of mainly eels Juniors! we had  no "ring ins" or marquee purchases we had a side that took the comp by the jugluar and stood up to be counted!!!!!

Well we all know what happened after that and we dont need reminding I am just sick of hearing about the club chasing this player or that player regardless if its rumours or not as I know that over the course of the last 10 or so years the effort and money that has been invested  into to  secure calibre players aint what it cracked up to be and the results are not always there either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • On the note of your heading in particular Eeldarado, that's what the Eels are doing.
The core of their team is still quite young in Hayne, Reddy, Mortimer, Mannah, Smith and Horo, so we can build around those players for the coming years.
Then as we see players like Jacob Loko, Ken Sio, Mitchell Allgood, Patrick O' Hanlon, Rory Brien, Peni Terepo, PJ Asiati etc. all get the chance to show what they can do in the next few years, we're building towards having a young side that is full of potential and talent.
  • I think the club was way too premature in deciding to make significant changes to a side that was talented enough to go to the Grand Final in 2009. Those recruitment decisions made for a very unstable camp last year and ultimately we only came out of it with a weaker side.
  • weve been building for 24 years
  • BUY BUY BUY
