  • Yeh I read that too. I don't believe these types of stories in the press. They're clearly just his manager trying to raise his client's price. Which is fair enough but I take these contract stories with a grain of salt.
I'm sure Brown's manager has been in talks with quite a few clubs. Brown is a State of Origin player and I'm sure he'd be welcomed into most clubs. As for Manly, well they pay their No 13 about $1 million per year so I doubt they're looking to spend big for another No 13.

    • spot on Muttman

    • Yep a Replacement for Jake Tuubo. NEXT

  • If he goes Niukore or Papali'i to lock.

We wouldn't lose much with either of them taking Browns spot.

Also he is a starting lock and I highly doubt they will move Jake T to accommodate him.

  • Brown has been a great warrior for us but he's not irreplacable IMO.  We can spend his money better elsewhere if he is after silly money.

  • I think it's a nothing story, it doesn't make sense.
If Brown is solely after the biggest contract he can get, he won't get that here. Obviously hope he stays, he's one of our best players every week.

  • His manager has already been busted lying about a non existent Saints offer.

  • If this is true, it make no sense for Manly. Jurbo has a great combination with his brother through his ball playing skills. So they wouldn't move him to prop foward. Jake doesn't also have the footwork to be a premier prop so he is much suited to lock foward. Nathan Brown could play prop but it would be a waste of his passing game.

If he left, the one thing that would be truely missed is his effort. He often comes back to help clean up in cover tackles or hit the ball dead which barely gets recognised.

    • Is Junior Paulo's passing game wasted at prop? He is as much a lock as Nathan Brown. Our only genuine front rower is RCG, but really they are all just different types of middle forward. There's no reason Brown couldn't play in the same team as Trbojevic.

      • As usual Pou you are spot on....no difference, they are all middle forwards..... if you want/ need a more tradional lock, then it is another matter. The smaller workhorse covering locks have come back into fashion again, e.g.Easts and Souths but balance in your side dicatates that! Not to mention the player himself. Once upon a time locks and second rowers were pretty interchangeable.....now it is locks and props.

I have always been a Nathan Brown fan, but I would have no compunction in losing him if the offer was anymore than he is currently being paid.....he has some negatives and his discipline problems have come back somewhat, he has also some negatives with ball hogging and I do not think his ball skils are as good as they were.

He may be an origin player now but realistically he will never be a walkup (what did he play 10 minutes a game).

Finally we are actually producing middle forwards from the juniors, so he is replaceable.

Just an aside, Dylan Brown if he puts on a stone, could develop into one of those old fashioned locks. That comment will piss off a lot of people who think he is so strictly a half but it is not out of the question at a point of his career. 5/8's and locks were also once very interchangeable.
